This was just not for me. it moved very slowly. Complex story that may be better read than in audio form. nothing against narrator or production- just hard to mentally keep track of everything.

Not what I expected

OK, so I bought this after hearing the author do an interview on a podcast. Based on that interview and the title I assumed this would be an in depth analysis of his NDE. NOPE. He does go over it, but the grand majority of the book is him theosophising about the nature of god. I can't even get reimbursed because I bought it with money instead of a credit.

I have gone to enough churches and enough religious schools; I really don't need to listen to someone grandstanding about their personal religious beliefs. Still have 3 hours to go and I don't think I can bring myself to listen. Should be a warning that this is more of a personal story about finding religion than anything to do with an actual near death experience.

Do not get this if you are looking for a great piece of literature. It's a fun adventure romp- campy and dated. Knowing that going in... who can resist a Houdini, master of self promotion, and Lovecraft, master of cosmic horror, mash-up?

easy listening

non- challenging, easy listening, light entertainment. Perfect for keeping you company on a long drive or in my case, while in a hospital waiting room.

Really didn't feel like I gained anything from this. if this is your first introduction to the subject- great! Otherwise, keep looking.

Over dramatized and underwhelmed

Premise is cool, but the writing style feels like a campfire ghost story- without the tension. I chose to read this before seeing the movie. I don't expect much of the movie; but normally the book will have more bite (pardon the pun). I was underwhelmed by the writing of the action sequences and honestly think the tension should have been drawn out and built slower. I easily put this down for a couple days and didn't care.

Need a different narrator!

Well, I was enjoying the story but the narrator is highly distracting. I swear its done by a guy that does the over dramatic voice overs for movie trailers. It seemed way over the top and detracted from my enjoyment of the story. I may want to progress to the next book, but I will read it if I do. I cannot bring myself to download and listen to the narrator again.

not what I was expecting

I'm comparing different sources regarding the craft and was extremely disappointed with this one. No real theory or history; and only a handful of "spells". Most of this recording is new age music.

A bit of a surprise...

This is a bit more graphic- both in the sexual aspect and the violence- than I had expected. (Apparently I should have looked up the author). However, if you can handle that I would definitely recommend. The story is interesting and is developed extremely well. Good choice in narration as well.

Well worth it!

Not my normal choice of books, but took a chance. Loved it!!! This author really made me care about the character.
