Religions are institutions; but when religion is over-institutionalized, it loses and is drained of spirituality and, therefore, ceases to be a religion.

makes it clear on strictly logical grounds that religions have to be institutionalized. clearly distinguishes between religion, religious values, spirituality, etc. and puts to rest the new age meme about religion not needing any kind of anchoring in anything institutional. nice dispassionate analysis.

never a dull moment
Revisado: 04-14-20
I like this author, and this was the only one of his that I hadn't yet read. the other reviews are appropriately positive--not a dull moment. what did leave something to be desired, however, was the absence of a well-defined protagonist. burton kaplan was kinda wheeled to that end, but he wasn't a big enough character in this drama to make it work. but the story is intrinsically interesting enough, and is also sufficiently wittily told, to make the purchase well-worth it (for mafia-buffs, anyway).

Moreover, most models used by these billionaires are so effective, because of their simplicity.

Historia
A major American intellectual makes the historical case that the reforms of the 1960s, reforms intended to make the nation more just and humane, instead left many Americans feeling alienated, despised, misled - and ready to put an adventurer in the White House. Christopher Caldwell has spent years studying the liberal uprising of the 1960s and its unforeseen consequences. Even the reforms that Americans love best have come with costs that are staggeringly high - in wealth, freedom, and social stability - and that have been spread unevenly among classes and generations.

reads like a mea culpa written by somebody on parole. not what i was looking for. i wanted to get the straight dope from kevin mitnick the hacker, not kevin mitnick the non-criminal parolee. plus, the material is irrelevant and dated. very disappointed. the narrator is good, though. the only reason i could listen to any of it.

Why Are Women So Gullible About Men?

Historia
Author Jazz Vazquez explains why women are so easily duped by men who want to use and abuse them. While some women are savvy enough to see through a man who is a con artist or the so-called “narcissist”, other women fall for lines, tricks, and ploys. Are women tripping over their own egos because they were once young and hot? Are these women too steeped in Disney fairy tales to see the obvious? Or, are they just plain ignorant?

Historia
INFJ personality type and former journalist Laura Cone talks about the relevancy of The Rules for dating. With her latest INFJ dating satire, Laura explains why INFJ girls might be the last surviving "Rules Girls" to save the love-starved planet. When narcissists are stealing the hearts of innocent damsels, it makes sense to apply the wisdom of The Rules. Only love those who love you.

some people are 'cullies of their own integrity', to quote philosopher David Hume, meaning that they abide by the rules when others flout them. and infj females seem to fall into this category--or so Laura Cone argues, in this characteristically fast-paced and provocative assault on conventional wisdom. Laura Cone wears a lot of different hats as an author, all of them valid, but she is at her best, in my opinion, when she is writing straight-up non-fiction, as she is doing here. no holds are barred, and the truth is served up raw and fast. love it!
