Historia
Florence, the 1550s. Lucrezia, third daughter of the grand duke, is comfortable with her obscure place in the palazzo: free to wonder at its treasures, observe its clandestine workings, and to devote herself to her own artistic pursuits. But when her older sister dies on the eve of her wedding, Lucrezia is thrust into the limelight: the duke is quick to request her hand in marriage, and her father just as quick to accept on her behalf. Having barely left girlhood behind, Lucrezia must make her way in a court whose customs are opaque and where her arrival is not universally welcomed.

Intriguing look at role of women in court life
Revisado: 04-22-25
The Marriage Portrait is a well-written novel that reimagines the life of Lucrezia de’ Medici. Maggie O’Farrell paints a vivid picture of Renaissance Italy, and her exploration of Lucrezia’s inner world is both thoughtful and haunting. The themes of power, control, and the role of women in court life added an intriguing layer.
That said, I found the story a bit slow and, at times, hard to follow. The timeline shifts and poetic style, while elegant, occasionally made it difficult to stay grounded in the narrative. Still, it’s an interesting and unique take on a historical figure who often gets overlooked.
Recommended for readers who enjoy literary historical fiction and don’t mind a slower, more reflective pace.

Historia
Boaz Manor was a finance wunderkind. He started a hedge-fund company in Canada and later burst onto Wall Street with a product that could transform the crypto market. By all accounts, he was incredibly hard-working. Possibly brilliant. And...a shameless con man who ended up wanted in multiple countries. Chasing Boaz Manor explores Boaz’s schemes through the perspective of those he left in his wake.

Compelling story
Revisado: 07-09-24
Unbelievable story. Investigative journalism at its best. Makes you wonder how often this happens - financial crimes of this magnitude and the perpetrator’s escape from justice. Give it a listen.

Overall okay just slow at some points
Revisado: 04-11-19
This is my second Ruth Ware audiobook. I love Imogene Church’s voice and enjoyed listening. There were points that I found myself wishing for fewer details and descriptions, and moments of “get to the point already!” Otherwise the book was okay, the characters compelling, but the story just so-so.

Wonderful book
Revisado: 09-09-18
I loved this story - Sara’s tenacity, stubbornness, will to live and desire not to let her experience define who she would become. The narration also added to my enjoyment of the book. I recommend this book. If you enjoy stories of the Holocaust or stories where people triumph in spite of their past circumstances, you will like this book.

Historia
On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but also that the cold-reading skills she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased...where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, an addictive thriller.

Good story, great narration but slow at times
Revisado: 08-24-18
I really enjoyed the story but often found myself wishing it would hurry along during some parts. The narration was wonderful. Ms. Church’s use of the different voices kept me entertained and engaged. I may give another Ruth Ware book a try especially if the narrator is Imogen Church.

Enjoyed hearing CS Lewis' story brought to life by Kenneth Branagh. He is amazing and he gave each character its own voice. I'd listen to 'War and Peace' if Branagh narrated! The book was full of biblical archetypes and was such a happy listen.
I really wasn't sure if I'd like the Narnia books, but I enjoyed this book so much that I bought 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe'.
