Historia
Triumphantly returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928, the world-famous exploring airship Italia — code-named N-4 — was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history. Helping lead the search was Roald Amundsen, the poles’ greatest explorer, who himself soon went missing in the frozen wastes. Amundsen’s body has never been found, the last victim of one of the Arctic’s most enduring mysteries....

This book is for people who like polar exploration, disasters , and Fascist machinations . It isn’t the best of all these , but it certainly is one of the more unique stories of this time period .

Deserves a place in polar expedition literature
Revisado: 02-11-22
I’m no Stranger to this genre. If you are looking for a book full of adventure, utmost respect for indigenous peoples, and awe for the northern lands, look no further. If you are hesitant because of the word spiritual in the subtitle, it is no more or less spiritual than other books of this kind. Spiritual refers to the introspection one gets in during polar challenges. This book is in no way preachy Nor does it dwell on religion at all.

Revisado: 01-30-22
This is one of those topics that you just kind of don’t think about and it is totally compelling and now it makes me want to try catering. It was weirdly immersive and I loved it

Historia
We are accustomed to think of sociopaths as violent criminals, but in The Sociopath Next Door, Harvard psychologist Martha Stout reveals that a shocking 4 percent of ordinary people, one in 25, has an often undetected mental disorder, the chief symptom of which is that that person possesses no conscience. He or she has no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt, or remorse. One in 25 everyday Americans, therefore, is secretly a sociopath.

Historia
On the morning of March 27, 1995, four quick shots cracked through Milan’s elegant streets. Maurizio Gucci, heir to the fabulous fashion dynasty, had been ambushed, slain on the steps to his office by an unknown gunman. Two years later, Milan’s chief of police entered the sumptuous palazzo of Maurizio’s ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani - nicknamed “the Black Widow” by the press - and arrested her for the murder. Did Patrizia kill her ex-husband because his spending was wildly out of control? Or is it possible Patrizia didn’t do it at all?

Really long , but keeps your interest
Revisado: 05-08-21
Just when you thought this book couldn’t get any longer, you look down and you realize there’s still like seven hours left. How could there possibly be more to say about this company? Well, there was, and I finish the whole book without getting bored. For anyone who is interested in brand names, designers, and luxury goods, this is not just about Gucci but about the luxury goods world in general. I only picked this up because it was on a daily deal and really cheap, but in hindsight, it would’ve been worth a credit.

Did not disappoint
Revisado: 04-15-21
Nothing kills my fan girl harder then a trilogy that starts out strong and ends horribly. This one just kept getting better and better. I loved all three books and it ended in a really satisfying way. I’m impressed. This is what all YA should aspire to be like.

Futuristic Melrose Place with rich teens
Revisado: 04-07-21
I can’t help myself, I love this series. It’s like if Melrose Place was in the future but they were teenagers. So good. A lot of futuristic books are too far-fetched to be believable but this one is plausible. Sometimes it feels like there’s too many characters to keep track of, but then they all kind of interweave together so it ends up making sense. If you were hesitant because you don’t know if you should be reading YA books as an adult, just throw out a side, set up the hammock, fix a mimosa, and enjoy.

In a not-so-distant future, a deadly pandemic has forced the world into social isolation. Confined to their homes, millions now survive off drone-delivered food packages and online-only interactions. It’s an especially lonely life for John Chambers, a drone shipment coordinator for the monolithic Chum Corporation. Trapped in his dead-end job and having just turned 40, John’s started spending more time grinding in virtual reality MMORPGs than he does grinding for his real-world job--and that hasn’t gone unnoticed by human resources!

It feels like an algorithm was run on 40-year-olds during 2020 and this book was the result. That being said, it held my interest and I finished it in three days. It’s predictable but well done.

Historia
Tipping is huge in America. Almost everyone leaves at least one tip every day. More than five million American workers depend on them, and we spend $66 billion on tips each year. And everyone recognizes that queasy feeling - in bars and restaurants, barbershops and beauty parlors, hotels and strip clubs, and everywhere else - when the check arrives or the tip jar looms. Omnipresent yet poorly understood, tipping has worked its way into almost every part of daily life.

Learned a lot, but def a content warning
Revisado: 03-22-21
As a high school teacher, this is absolutely the kind of book I would want to share with my students so that they know what to do as they start to navigate adulthood, but there’s just too much unnecessary swearing and a lot of stripper and sex worker talk, so I couldn’t. That being said, it was really interesting and I feel like I personally learned a lot
