Historia
Persuasion, Jane Austen's last novel, is a tale of love and marriage told with irony and insight. Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth have met and seperated years before. Their reunion, after the passage or irrecoverable years of their youth, forces a recognition of the false values that drove them apart.

Simply delightful
Revisado: 05-16-24
As a longtime Jane Austen lover, I’ve come to appreciate Persuasion more and more over time, with its hard earned maturity in the heroine and almost justifiable redemption in the hero. Anne and Captain Wentworth’s journey across the years shows us a captivating “now and then” scenario. One of my great pleasures in revisiting Austen comes from her excellent supporting characters, and the Mary Musgrove monologues in Persuasion are as entertaining as she is annoying.
The narration by Greta Schacci is superb. Her mild and elegant voice, with just enough force and determination when needed, suits the story perfectly. For anyone who already owns and loves other JA audiobooks, this one may still be worth adding to your collection. It’s wonderful.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

An ode to flawed women
Revisado: 04-25-24
I devoured this audiobook. You know a listen is good when you’re almost looking forward to the traffic jam to get further ahead in the story. The narration is pleasantly conversational and Blair is believable as a reminiscing New Yorker crone. Story wise, the intriguing characters and diverse situations offer much to enjoy. I personally appreciated Liz Gilbert’s knack for painting these substantial, imperfect, maddening, vibrant women that remind me of people in my life who are just as real and important.
I loved it and see myself returning for another listen which is a rare distinction in my audio library.

Our beloved Jane, done justice to
Revisado: 02-21-24
The genius of Jane Austen needs a suitable narrator to uphold the beauty and wit of her stories. Alison Larkin does an excellent job, I particularly love her take on Emma (light in all its fun and conversation) and on Persuasion ( heartfelt and suspenseful). Recommend for devoted Janeites and new admirers alike.

Historia
This book gives hope to everyone connected to endometriosis. That includes every woman and young girl who has it, and the women and men in their lives who know something is wrong, but do not know what it is or what to do about it. This book is written at a level that everyone with ties to this disease can relate to and understand, but it is also for doctors with good intentions who lack the knowledge of how to diagnose or treat it.

Must read if you suspect endometriosis
Revisado: 03-29-23
Informative, kind and action oriented, this book lays out the multiple considerations a person with a history of endometriosis symptoms must take into account when choosing next steps, a specialist and treatment. I’m very lucky to have read this before committing to a hysterectomy that would’ve probably not resolved all my pain. Now I feel much better prepared to seek care and move forward.

Historia
In this romance anthology, 10 Austenesque authors sketch Pride and Prejudice heroine Elizabeth Bennet's character through a collection of re-imaginings, set in the Regency through contemporary times. In Elizabeth: Obstinate, Headstrong Girl, she bares her most intimate thoughts, all the while offering biting social commentary about life’s absurdities. Elizabeth overcomes the obstacles of others’ opinions, not to mention her own flaws, to find a love truly worthy of her - her Mr. Darcy - all with humor and her sparkling charm.

Delightful!
Revisado: 03-11-23
I enjoyed this one tremendously. I’ve already listened to Dangerous to know and Rational creatures from Quill collective and found them entertaining, but this one is almost a perfect win. Every story except maybe the Age of Nescience captured and excited me. There’s something magical about hearing the essence of Lizzy portrayed across time, space and possibilities. I’m sure I’ll revisit this one 🥰

Historia
Jane Austen's masterpieces are littered with unsuitable gentlemen - Willoughby, Wickham, Churchill, Crawford, Tilney, Elliot, et al. - adding color and depth to her plots but often barely sketched. Have you never wondered about the pasts of her rakes, rattles, and gentlemen rogues? How did they become the men Jane Austen created? In this romance anthology, 11 Austenesque authors expose the histories of Austen's anti-heroes. Dangerous to Know: Jane Austen's Rakes & Gentlemen Rogues is a titillating collection of Georgian era short stories.

Surprisingly enjoyable
Revisado: 02-14-23
I chose this book only out of curiosity for the Frank Churchill story because Emma is my favorite Austen. I was surprised to enjoy all the stories so much, with the variety of redemptions, vile characters and origin stories. With a spoiler alert I will say the one thing I didn’t love is that women are often blamed for the hardening of a young man who then turns into a rake, it does get a bit old as a trope. However, the writing is enjoyable and the narration entertaining.

Following the runaway success of her stunning rendition of Pride and Prejudice, award-winning narrator Alison Larkin returns - breathing new life into Jane Austen's Emma. Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the book, Larkin - a witty and always original voice - is the perfect vessel to bring this classically satirical novel to a new audience.

Entertaining and Becoming
Revisado: 11-09-16
I am a Jane Austen lover and really enjoyed this performance. The voice is cheerful enough to capture Emma's overall energy. The slight variations of intonation for the characters in general are well balanced and add to the narration. I particularly enjoy Mrs Elton's snobbery, Miss Bates' scattered speech and Mr Woodhouse's hypochondriac tone. Recommended!
