Historia
Jill Homer, a newspaper editor in Alaska, has an outlandish ambition: a 2,740-mile mountain bike race along the rugged Continental Divide. But Jill's dream starts to unravel the minute she sets it in motion. An accident during a race on the Iditarod Trail results in serious frostbite. As she struggles with painful recovery and uncertainties about leaving a good job to pursue a seemingly impossible pipe dream, her employer hands down an offer she can't refuse.

The worst reader ever
Revisado: 02-19-25
The story is fantastic and riveting, but the reader is so distracting in her inability to use the proper voice inflections and read at a pace that makes sense with the story. I am a very loyal audible reader and have read many audible books, but this reader is the worst I have ever experienced. Just when you become engrossed in the story, her reading style is a distraction that reminds you that you’re listening to a book versus experiencing an adventure

Historia
In a wealthy Minneapolis neighborhood, two elderly women are bludgeoned to death. They are apparent victims of a random robbery, though nothing of value appears to have been stolen. But when Lucas Davenport looks deeper, he fears that the victims weren’t so random, and the items stolen were far from invaluable. As a pattern emerges it leads Lucas to...certainly not where he expected. Which is too bad, because the killers are expecting him. And that’s only the first surprise.

Historia
VBI (Vermont Bureau of Investigation) head Joe Gunther and his team are called in to investigate a series of violent deaths that appear unrelated until telltale clues reveal a linkage between them and that all of the deaths are, in fact, murders. However, apart from a single drop of unexplained blood left at each crime scene, there are no obvious connections between the victims or the cases. In the search for the elusive truth, the VBI must plumb the depths of every suspect's past.

Dreadful voices
Revisado: 07-21-22
The reader did a terrible job with the voices. It was so distracting! Every time Joe Gunther spoke, I felt like he was choking on something. And the voice inflections when people questioned were bizarre! Very distracting and hard to get into what was actually very good story

Wayne Castine was found brutally murdered and the murderer remains at large. Castine, a suspected child predator, was killed in Brattleboro where he was involved with a tangled network of an extended family living in a local trailer park. Any member of the clan would have had the opportunity to kill him, and, as he was involved with both the mother and her 12 year old daughter, reason to commit the murder.

Great story but way too many religious references
Revisado: 02-05-22
The story was actually really good in the historical elements were interesting. However not a paragraph goes by without references to God, faith, Jesus, etc. It felt very heavy handed for those of us who are not born-again Christian or avidly religious. I had thought to read the entire series but I don’t think I could bear another book

If you like theater, you'll enjoy this
Revisado: 01-29-22
I'm not a theater fan, don't go to broadway shows. So, listening to this versus a typical auible book just sounded like overacting and an overly dramatic script. I couldn't get through more than 45 minutes of it. Ugh.

Historia
Joe Gunther and his team - the Vermont Bureau of Investigation (VBI) - are usually called in on major cases by local Vermont enforcement whenever they need expertise and backup. But after the state is devastated by Hurricane Irene, the police from one end of the state are taxed to their limits, leaving Joe Gunther involved in an odd and seemingly unrelated series of cases. In the wake of the hurricane, a seventeen-year-old gravesite is exposed, revealing a coffin that had been filled with rocks instead of the expected remains.

The best reader
Revisado: 04-07-21
I love the Joe Gunther series and have been reading them in order. Thus, I was so disappointed to run across the other readers who made Joe Gunther‘s voice sound either like an old man or some kind of a demented idiot. And Willy sounded like a bad James Cagney imitation. The stories are terrific and Tom Taylorson is the man in terms of the best reader. I was so relieved to see his name and hope that the rest of the books on the series follow suit!

Historia
A deputy sheriff was shot to death during a routine traffic stop on a dark country road. From what can been seen on the cruiser's video recorder of the killers, it is believed that they were a couple of Boston-based drug runners who had been on their way from Canada down to Boston. That's what brings Joe Gunther and his team to the investigation - an attempt to shut down the major drug running operation.

Historia
Lieutenant Joe Gunther is in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom investigating a minor embezzling case. It's a pleasant distraction and a chance to reconnect with old friends, but when a house fire reveals itself to be arson, compounded by murder, Gunther can't help but investigate. He quickly finds himself enmeshed in a web of animosity between put-upon townspeople, the state police, angry parents, and members of a reclusive sect.

Revisado: 11-14-20
Overall a good listen. Story was interesting as was the setting in the northeastern region of Vermont. The reader should do his homework, however, as Natick, MA is mispronounced constantly throughout! Very distracting for a New England native.

Can't stand the new reader
Revisado: 04-04-20
I absolutely love this series, part adventure, part mystery. I love learning about the French Canadian culture. I was SO sad when I listened to the beginning of this book and the author announced that the reader had passed away. BTW, kudos to LP for being such a class act to announce it to her readers. However.... the new reader is not French and has a "haughty" British accent. OMG, I am an hour into the book and I absolutely hate him! I feel like I went from the quaint towns of Ontario to the drawing rooms of London. Everyone sounds like a pretentious member of Downton Abbey all of a sudden. It has completely changed the feel of the story, characters, etc. Were there no French Canadian readers available?? Oy. Really, really bad choice. LP, you have ruined my favorite series - I'm so sad.
