a good fourth in the trilogy, BUT..
Revisado: 10-19-15
i needed some more info/closure on the whole salander story, and i certainly got it. the plot itself was good, the ending a bit weak. it felt a little bit like it did when i finished the first book (dragon tattoo) and didn't yet know it was a part of a series. i hope this guy is planing YET ANOTHER salander book, otherwise he needs to get a place in a good writing course to work on his endings. it's still worth a read, and i'm not sorry i read it. throughout the book i did find he was often as good as larsson. i just hoped he would get the ending right (i don't mean i was looking for a hollywood ending, just one that would be on-par with the series).
as for the narration -i love simon vance but it feels like he never checked how he pronounced the names of the characters in the previous books in the series before he read this one. other than that, his narration was as great as always. i'd listen to anything if he's the one reading it. he can read the phone book for all i care, i'd pay as many credits as needed to listen.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

wonderful.

a great book if you liked a girl with a dragon tattoo and the likes. this is the type of plot where you feel you're right there, in the story, trying to figure out what the hell is going on along with the characters. the double-team of narrators do a great job of conveying the story and the emotions, and i felt like the story was coming to life around me.

A breakneck race against time…and an implacable enemy. An anonymous young woman murdered in a run-down hotel, all identifying characteristics dissolved by acid. A father publicly beheaded in the blistering heat of a Saudi Arabian public square. A notorious Syrian biotech expert found eyeless in a Damascus junkyard. Smoldering human remains on a remote mountainside in Afghanistan. A flawless plot to commit an appalling crime against humanity. One path links them all, and only one man can make the journey. Pilgrim.

I wish this was just the first in a series
Revisado: 10-19-15
great story, great twists, good, believable narration. obviously it was a bit over-the-top (007-single-handedly-saving-the-entire-world-in-90-minutes-ish) and yet it all made sense in the moment, and i never felt the author being lazy about explaining the different situations. i really wish there was more to read by this author, and i'd love to keep reading about this character (though i doubt it would become a series).

Kathy does a brilliant job at narrating her own book. It feels like we're just talking. Even though I kinda knew the stories from interviews and from her stand up specials and all, there was something about her tone (as always) which kept me hooked. Totally worth a listen, and I will probably give it a second listen when I'm feeling a bit down and looking for a normal person's take on life.

Historia
Large numbers of atheists, humanists, and conspiracy theorists are raising one of the most pressing questions in the history of religion: "Did Jesus exist at all?" Was he invented out of whole cloth for nefarious purposes by those seeking to control the masses? Or was Jesus such a shadowy figure - far removed from any credible historical evidence - that he bears no meaningful resemblance to the person described in the Bible?

a great read for the atheist christophiles..
Revisado: 08-06-12
the author addresses all the issues which touch upon the question, but also explains why they are (or arn't) important. both mythicists views and the life of Jesus, the jewish apocalyptic preacher are explored, and it was scholarly enough to get me reading more. i wish the "works cited" of the book was also available somewhere for further reading.

Historia
You wouldn’t be ‘barking mad’ if, when asked the definition of certain phrases, ‘the cat got your tongue’ and you ‘clammed up’. Let’s not ‘beat around the bush’; the English language is littered with linguistic quirks that, on closer examination, seem utterly fantastical. In Spilling the Beans on the Cat’s Pyjamas, Judy Parkinson explores the many colourful – but rather incomprehensible – phrases that enhance our language, describing their origins and defining their true meanings.

a tough call.
Revisado: 12-02-11
this is a really tough one to review. very informative on the one hand, yet bad quality of recording and it isn't very appealing to the ear or the interest buds. i think i only survived through the listen because i really like the subject. if you're just starting to look into the middle ages, i wouldn't start with this one. it is basically a university course that someone recorded, and didn't even bother to digitally remaster or take off the white noise.

funny at times but mostly when she quotes others
Revisado: 06-30-11
this book is like an extended blog, which could've been tolerated if it wasn't for her voice. it's just not pleasant to listen to her voice. the story itself is actually not very consistent or interesting, as it is too personal. i would probably be much more impressed if i bothered to read it rather than listen to it.
