Historia
Woodrow Wilson Nickel, age 105, feels his life ebbing away. But when he learns giraffes are going extinct, he finds himself recalling the unforgettable experience he cannot take to his grave. It’s 1938. The Great Depression lingers. Hitler is threatening Europe, and world-weary Americans long for wonder. They find it in two giraffes who miraculously survive a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic. What follows is a twelve-day road trip in a custom truck to become Southern California’s first giraffes. Behind the wheel is the young Dust Bowl rowdy Woodrow.

Best overall story and narration I’ve listened to in a long time!
Revisado: 05-07-25
The story takes place in 1938 during a turbulent time in history. A poor young boy of 18 lost his family during the dust bowl and heads east. What awaits him will be an adventure that shapes the core of his being for the rest of his life. I would have written a sentence or two differently at the very end,

I thoroughly enjoyed the performers and storyline. But, as so many have said abrupt open ended ending. Still definitely worth a listen though

Historia
Magazine editor and part-time archaeologist, Gill McArdle is getting it together. Or at least, he thinks he is, until the death of a friend throws his life into turmoil. He’s on Orkney, researching an elaborate stone carrying an ancient religious motif. But he’s perplexed as the carving long predates any previous incidence of the symbol’s first use. Either someone is tampering with Orcadian archaeology, or Gill is facing a puzzle that can’t be resolved.

When I thought I had things figured out the mystery deepened… Also enjoyed listening to the reader - perfect for this series~
Revisado: 05-05-24
I thoroughly enjoyed all three books, but this one is my favorite. I love the threads weaving amongst all three. When I thought I had things figured out, the mystery deepened. I enjoy the archeological and mystical aspects of all three books as well as the scientific aspects. I learned something new in each book. I can relate to Gill on many levels as I’m sure others do. The reader is perfect. The story is very well written and properly edited. Hopefully there will be more books in the future.

When you’re the editor of a successful investigative journal, you don’t dash around Scotland chasing after loch monsters. But Gill McArdle didn’t believe in unicorns either, and speaking honestly, he was fortunate to walk away from that one. He’s a scientist, and not one of the wild-eyed optimists spending their days, scanning the loch for a creature. And here’s his problem. With every passing hour, evidence mounts that something is stirring.

What I enjoy about this series is not only good story plots, but well written and edited without extraneous sentences. Some of the characters from the previous book are in this one. I won’t expound as others already have. Enjoy!

Historia
Meanwhile, Gillan McArdle’s academic career is ending because of one stupid lapse of judgement. Offered a short-term contract, he lands on the Hebridean island of Harris to investigate obscure animal bones. Quickly dismissing the unicorn skull as a thinly disguised fake, he can’t deny there’s something unusual about these bones. Baited by rumors of a majestic tusked horse roaming the uplands, Gill begins to suspect someone is manipulating him. As he gradually unravels the mystery of the skull, he grasps a disturbing conclusion: If this creature does exist, the evidence suggests it’s a killer.

I’m on this second book of the series. It was really a powerful storyline that just kept getting better. I’ll let other people’s review suffice. The ending was beautifully satisfying. Enjoyed the reader for both books. Now I’m on to the third…

Historia
The Bartender' s Tale stars Tom Harry and his 12-year-old son, Rusty, who live alone and run a bar in a small Montana town in the early 1960s. Their lives are upended when Proxy, a woman from Tom's past, and her beatnik daughter, Francine, breeze into town. Is Francine, as Proxy claims, the unsuspected legacy of her and Tom’s past? Without a doubt she is an unsettling gust of the future, upending every certainty in Rusty’s life and generating a mist of passion and pretense that seems to obscure everyone’s vision but his own.

Listened to this mid August while gardening etc. and was caught off guard a number of times with it’s depth, sorrow, humor, twists and turns. Ultimately a very satisfying story with great narration. Will listen again and share it with my husband on a long car trip sometime in the future. I’m 68 so can relate to the time period. Definitely worth the credit.

Historia
Thirty years ago, Wilde was found as a boy living feral in the woods, with no memory of his past. Now an adult, he still doesn't know where he comes from, and another child has gone missing. No one seems to take Naomi Pine's disappearance seriously, not even her father - with one exception. Hester Crimstein, a television criminal attorney, knows through her grandson that Naomi was relentlessly bullied at school. Hester asks Wilde - with whom she shares a tragic connection - to use his unique skills to help find Naomi.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.
