Historia
Margaret Parker and Hattie LaCour never intended to turn outlaw. After being run off their ranch by a greedy cattleman, their family is left destitute. As women alone they have few choices: marriage, lying on their backs for money, or holding a gun. For Margaret and Hattie, the choice is simple. With their small makeshift family, the gang pulls off a series of heists across the West.

I wanted to like this...
Revisado: 04-22-23
I wanted to like this - but I just did not. The one narrator's fake British accent was so inconsistent that I couldn't stand it. I got about 1/5 of the way through the book and I couldn't keep straight which character did what and why. I am sure this book is brilliant... but not for me.

Historia
England, 1943: Home is no longer safe for eight-year-old twins Molly and Jacob. Night after night, wailing bombs and screeching planes skim the rooftops overhead. They cradle each other, shivering in terror, not knowing if they'll live to see dawn. Their mother, Martha, has no choice but to evacuate them to the safety of the countryside. At the train station, Martha bites back tears as she says good-bye to her precious children. Knowing she might never see them again, she gives Jacob a letter, pressing the envelope into his hands and telling him to only read it if they are in danger.

A bit Hallmark...
Revisado: 08-11-22
I found this book was a bit Hallmark-y. Nothing makes it stand out as particularly good or bad. Not a bad way to spend a lazy day, but there's nothing particularly special here.

book and narrator mismatch
Revisado: 06-05-22
I had a hard time with this book. it's not that the book was bad, it isn't. the writing was interesting and I wanted to get to know the characters. however, the choice of one single Australian narrator (even a competent one like this one) to read a book from multiple first person points of view, for a book that takes place in the Southern United states, is a little bit baffling..
I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Historia
In March 1942, 25-year-old kindergarten teacher Magda Hellinger and nearly a thousand other young women were deported as some of the first Jews to be sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. The SS soon discovered that by putting prisoners in charge of the day-to-day accommodation blocks, they could deflect attention away from themselves. Magda was one such prisoner selected for leadership and put in charge of hundreds of women in the notorious Experimental Block 10. She found herself constantly walking a dangerously fine line: saving lives while avoiding suspicion by the SS.

Historia
Romania, 1989. Communist regimes are crumbling across Europe. Seventeen-year-old Cristian Florescu dreams of becoming a writer, but Romanians aren’t free to dream; they are bound by rules and force. Amidst the tyrannical dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaușescu in a country governed by isolation and fear, Cristian is blackmailed by the secret police to become an informer. He’s left with only two choices: betray everyone and everything he loves—or use his position to creatively undermine the most notoriously evil dictator in Eastern Europe.

interesting book, passable narration
Revisado: 03-19-22
interesting book, it took me a while to figure out how the characters interconnected. although, choosing an American narrator to put on a British accent for an entire book was probably not the best choice. it's a book I will read again to catch the little clues I missed the first time around, but I don't think I will listen to it in audio. the faux British accent is a little much. there are plenty of talented British narrators out there.

Historia
Mary B. Addison killed a baby. Allegedly. She didn't say much in that first interview with detectives, and the media filled in the only blanks that mattered: a white baby had died while under the care of a churchgoing black woman and her nine-year-old daughter. The public convicted Mary, and the jury made it official. But did she do it?

Good... But missing something
Revisado: 01-15-22
This book kept me interested, but it is missing something. There's a bit too much foreshadowing, which wasn't handled well. I'm glad I got this one on sale.

I couldn't finish
Revisado: 01-08-22
I wanted to like this book. and there were portions that I thought I could get through just to find out what happens. I am 2/3 of the way through and I just don't care anymore. the characters finally connect, but really nothing has happened. I can summarize the first 6 hours of the book in four sentences. I'm returning this one. also, I don't understand the rave reviews for the narrator. she is not a great narrator and does not do accents well at all. I'm sorry to say it. if a book is set in australia, I will read anything that she narrates. but she cannot do a British or Scottish accent to save her life.

Historia
In the most extraordinary journey Ann Rule has ever undertaken, America's master of true crime has spent more than two decades researching the story of the Green River Killer, who murdered more than 49 young women. Green River, Running Red is a harrowing account of a modern monster, a killer who walked among us undetected. It is also the story of his quarry -- of who these young women were and who they might have become.

too long and drawn out
Revisado: 12-11-21
I had a hard time finishing this book. and after nearly 20 years since publication, my opinion of it hasn't changed. it might be the narrator, who may not be a great choice for this book, or it could be the content of the book itself. it's just a little bit too drawn out and there's so many players, from victims to police officers to secondary characters that we really don't hear from again. I still like this author's other books, but this one fell short.
