...Voice of reader is one unsuited for book narration. She reads words into sentences as well as anyone,. ...Sound of her voice starches the walls of the mind of the listener, however.
So, throw out the current recording. Hire a female voice actor -- not just anyone who can read, and record that person's vocal performance best suited for listening while reading the text.
This current recording sounds so good you will welcome the sound of fingernails scraping a blackboard.
