Fun listen. At the end, I thought, "oh, that's a good one!" Great free audible.

I listened over the course of three days, binging when possible. It was a good story, a fun listen, and I wanted to know who dunnit. I appreciated that the heavier topics at play in the story line did not take center-stage; the characters and dialogue did. And to counter reviews that did not appreciate the salty language - I enjoyed it! It was not overused nor the focus but it did add color to characters and topics that deserve an F bomb or four. A Texas grandma who decides to become a heavy drinker in her 70s had me considering my future life goals!

A great listen about the fear of women's abilities, both from the world & from themselves, through the perspectives of three women in a long line of Weywards. The narrators were perfect. Weyward would make a great series.

I genuinely wanted to slap the main character.

I said, out loud, more than once, please shut up, while listening to the main character of this story whine. I did not find the main character to be interesting, relatable, or likeable..but likeable is not the right word - tolerable. Her whining was intolerable, and the story line did nothing to rescue the listen.

The narration distracted me from the story

Putting your work out into the world isn't easy and I don't take lightly leaving any negative commentary. When a narrator distracts from the story, we have a problem. J. McKay's style of speaking is, in my opinion, not suited for narration. It isn't an inflection, it is a dogmatic way of speaking that distracts the listener and detracts from the story; the last word of each sentence is drawn out in a very odd manner that sounds whiny with a hint of depression (her octave drops when she draws out the last word and it feels...uncertain, sad). Now to read this, it doesn't sound like a big deal. But to listen to it 137 times in a chapter (and there are multiple chapters), you quickly understand why so many people have made comments about it (I read them and ignored them thinking "nahhh...can't be that big of a deal - yes - yes it is).
I do not feel the 2 narrators did anything to help the story, they may have even just added confusion. They aren't used in a consistent, cohesive manner where the voice of one narrator indicates a specific change or character in the story. The randomness of this only added to a not-great experience.
Ms. Armstrong's work has been a fun distraction and I hope to come back to it at a future date.

I agree, one of King's best.
There is heart in the characters. There are details in the details! Great mash of history & imagination & possibility.
Thank you Mr. King.

I thought this was an interesting approach to a story about many things, including religion, fear, family, exorcism - both as experienced through the characters & the influences that sculpt our views on them - and this was a story about the little girl left after the show is over.
The story kept me curious and thinking.

Found myself bored more than a few times. Not suspense, not thriller. More like a lifetime movie script.

One of the best I have listened to. Story is well written & full of character & characters. It covers a multitude of genres...mystery, crime, women, love/hate, prison, addiction, courtroom drama & ghosts. None of it is tied up in the usual pretty ribbon ending. Audio reading was spot on perfect. Would make a great movie!
