Historia
What’s in a cloud? Did you know that water vapor is invisible and actually lighter than dry air? What separates a tropical storm from a winter blizzard? And what exactly is El Niño? Elliot Rappaport, a professional captain of traditional sailing ships, has spent three decades at sea, where understanding weather is crucial to the safety of vessels and their crews. In Reading the Glass, he offers a sailor’s-eye view of the moving parts of our atmosphere and unveils the larger patterns it holds: global winds, storms, air masses, jet streams, and the longer arc of our climate.

Historia
Here is an explosive book that takes us, for the first time, deep inside a shadowy, fascinating, and surreal world of unscrupulous doctors, anything-goes team directors, and athletes so relentlessly driven to succeed that they would do anything—and take any risk, physical, mental, or moral—to gain the edge they needed to win. The Secret Race is a riveting, courageous act of witness from a man who is as determined to reveal the hard truth about his sport as he once was to win the Tour de France.

Sports like many other things brings extremes to win. As in the book - “It is just a bike race.” Definitely this book tells the often experience that wining can be losing. However wining fair whatever that might me is rewarding.

Historia
Emma Hamilton came to be recognized as the most beautiful woman of her age and has become immortal in history for her romantic involvement with Nelson, England's greatest hero. As well as beauty, she had great gifts: she was a singer of professional ability, a natural linguist and actress, and a shrewd behind-the-scenes politician. She captivated almost everyone with her warm-hearted, extroverted charm.

The love story of a century.
Revisado: 05-03-22
Love so intertwined with risks. Be they social, financial or physical. Love for both. Fame for one. Tragedy for one. A daughter much desired. A love story beyond most for both. A sad tail of British Admiralty neglect for the request on his dying day of their most famous Nelson.

Historia
As women everywhere will attest, when it comes to understanding female sexuality, most guys know more about what's under the hood of a car than under the hood of a clitoris. And while it seems that men have struggled valiantly since the dawn of time to find ways to reliably elicit the female orgasm, rare is the guy who has the modesty to ask: "What do I do?" Ironically, the answer has always been right there on the tip of his tongue.

Historia
Having entered the British Navy at the age of 12, Horatio Lord Nelson achieved the rank of captain at the age of 20. As captain, he was quickly recognized as a magnetic and controversial figure. He triumphed at Cape St. Vincent and the Nile, but failed at Tenefife and Boulogne. With the glories of Copenhagen and Trafalgar yet ahead of him, his ardent passion for Emma Hamilton, the wife of a British Ambassador, cast a heavy shadow over his career.

Amazing sailing history of battle few know.
Revisado: 02-05-22
Nelson was beyond in some ways anything before and after. Also how important sailing skills were for battle and survival at sea. The current navies are so different. The current ships of sail and sailors have a history few know except for the pictures. This book fills in the gaps. Great narration.

Historia
Before the ink was dry on the U.S. Constitution, the establishment of a permanent military had become the most divisive issue facing the new government. Would a standing army be the thin end of dictatorship? Would a navy protect American commerce against the Mediterranean pirates, or drain the treasury and provoke hostilities with the great powers? The founders, particularly Jefferson, Madison, and Adams, debated these questions fiercely and switched sides more than once.

Well written and read.
Revisado: 08-04-21
The war of 1812 sowed the seeds of the US Navy today. This book makes that case and in the prologue makes the case for the importance of the war. The US with virtually no navy stands against the British at the height of their global naval dominance.

Historia
For 400 years - from the first Spanish assaults against the Arawak people of Hispaniola in the 1490s to the US Army's massacre of Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee in the 1890s - the indigenous inhabitants of North and South America endured an unending firestorm of violence. During that time the native population of the Western Hemisphere declined by as many as 100 million people.

The history we weren’t told.
Revisado: 05-31-21
This book takes what is glossed over in most history classes focusing on the almost total change in what we call the americas in four hundred years from what it had been for thousands of years. 80 to 100 million indigenous settled folks were reduced to a few million. Many of those left were put to slavery.

Historia
Since the time of Columbus, Indian slavery was illegal in much of the American continent. Yet, as Andrés Reséndez illuminates in his myth-shattering The Other Slavery, it was practiced for centuries as an open secret. There was no abolitionist movement to protect the tens of thousands of natives who were kidnapped and enslaved by the conquistadors, then forced to descend into the "mouth of hell" of 18th-century silver mines or, later, made to serve as domestics for Mormon settlers and rich Anglos.
