Historia
The apocalypse will be televised! You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Being stuck with her prize-winning show cat. And you know what’s worse than that? An alien invasion, the destruction of all man-made structures on Earth, and the systematic exploitation of all the survivors for a sadistic intergalactic game show. That’s what. Join Coast Guard vet Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they try to survive the end of the world—or just get to the next level—in a video game–like, trap-filled fantasy dungeon.

Much more disturbing than expected
Revisado: 09-14-24
I can see how some people would love the narrator, but I just found his main character voice and announcer voice so difficult to put up with. Both are trying too hard in my opinion. The orgasm voices need not even be described..
The book itself is way more disturbing than I expected. I found myself only sticking around to see the main character get back at the terrible creations, but realize just leaving the book part way was the best option. So happy to enjoy other litrpgs that I think are much better.

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Historia
Spensa’s life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus, and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell - the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades. What’s more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small planet home. Now, the Superiority - the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life - has started a galaxy-wide war.

Best in the series - I had read people’s gripes but think they are mistaken
Revisado: 12-15-21
I saw a lot of people saying this felt like a novella or something less concrete but this is actually the exact kind of book I’ve been waiting for in the series. I liked it much more than the second book and in a lot of ways is probably my favorite of the series so far. I thought it was very well done (if a little predictable) and I was very engaged all the way through.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Narrator sounds like Siri
Revisado: 03-05-20
Read this book for a class, but while the content was ok, the reader was awful. It made listening to the book a chore and felt like I was listening to Siri. Do NOT recommend the audio version.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Most overhyped book - so disappointing
Revisado: 02-12-20
Not a good book at all. Ending is slightly interesting but very painful every step of the way to stay engaged. Almost made me think I downloaded the wrong book after it came so highly recommend. Reader is underwhelming, story is paced very poorly, leaves a lot to be desired.
Proceed with extreme caution - major waste of a credit.

Revisado: 02-12-20
Takes a thrilling first book to a whole new level. Darrow is awesome and it just gets better in Golden Son. You must keep going and ready books 2 & 3.
(Then stop - don’t read books 4 & 5)

Top 5 series of all time - start it right now
Revisado: 02-12-20
Absolute must read. Everyone who has finished it has become a total fanatic. It is the greatest series of its kind. Book 1 is thrilling and then you must continue to book 2 - it has some of the best moments in any book I’ve ever read.
The writing is stellar, narrator is awesome. So amazed by the author.
Only downside is that it will hurt your sleep schedule. Hard to ever turn it off. Last 4-5 hours are a rush.
PS - ONLY read books 1-3. Books 4-5 completely ruin the series. Wish I had never read them, literally some of the worst books I’ve read in years.

Needlessly violent. Rehash same problems. Darrow is over.
Revisado: 02-12-20
Would highly suggest stopping after book 3. Do not ruin your red rising experience with the imposters of the second series. Also, the narrators are even worse in this book than book 4. Rarely did I feel frustration with the author in the first trilogy, but book 5 is just full of disappointment after disappointment. Any redemption arc in book 6 won’t even matter because what you knew and loved about red rising is now dead and desecrated. Wait for Pierce to write a new series, because just listening to this book has been my greatest audible regret.

Ten years after the events of Morning Star, Darrow and the Rising are battling the remaining Gold loyalist forces and are closer than ever to abolishing the color-coded caste system of Society for good. But new foes will emerge from the shadows to threaten the imperfect victory Darrow and his friends have earned. Pierce Brown expands the size and scope of his impressive Red Rising universe with new characters, enemies, and conflicts among the stars.

Stay Away! Stop after 3rd book
Revisado: 02-12-20
The second trilogy is extremely disappointing. This book starts to take a poor turn that just worsens to the depths of book 5. Books 1-3 are probably my favorite series (maybe tied for 1st), while book 5 is probably one of the worst books I’ve ever read. I believe he must have been just pushed to keep the series going as it has none of the creativity or thrill that the first set had. The narrators are jarring the characters much less like able. Very disappointing.

Very interesting (First 2/3 is fantastic)
Revisado: 02-12-20
So fascinating. Was literally shocked about how all this could be real and spoke about it with many co workers. First half to two thirds are riveting but it kind of flounders at the end when it drastically changes direction.
