Great hard sci fi

I little dry in the middle but great ideas and finish. Similar to Asimov and Cixin Liu. Nice ideas and multiple perspectives of the same facts.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Riveting hard sci fi, with character development.
Revisado: 05-19-22
I loved this book. Better than the Martian with the same kind of fun math problems every few chapters ("...just some back of the napkin math shows...")
What was really cool was the main character (and the main second character (no spoilers)) had quite a bit of character development, in addition to all the science. Did I mention plot twists?
I'd compare it to the Three Body Problem series by Liu- it's that good, with slightly less time scope- just as much on the line though- the survival of humanity (and? NO SPOILERS!)
Bravo. One of the best books I've read in a long time (oh- I listened to it. The narrator is amazing- great pacing and differentiation of character dialog.)

Historia
Laura Jane Grace doesn’t defy rock ‘n’ roll. She defines it. In an inspiring examination of identity and creativity, the founder and frontwoman of notorious punk band Against Me! recounts the story of her extraordinary life, her rise to fame, and the painful but powerful moments that have led her to where she is now. Black Me Out invites listeners to not only hear Grace’s complicated journey through gender dysphoria, addiction, mental health, and artistic integrity, but recognize the universal pursuit of our authentic selves. Track the common journey with a modern icon.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Absolutely amazing
Revisado: 09-15-20
Great delivery and reading by the author. Heartbreaking at times, but hopeful as well. This book is a call to action, and I only hope I can answer the call.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

I have never nerded out for a book as much as this
Revisado: 02-15-18
What made the experience of listening to The Martian the most enjoyable?
Biting nails suspense, over the top science and math, production value superb. What else could I want?
What other book might you compare The Martian to and why?
I almost exclusively read history and science, and read this fiction only because my 13 year old son raved about it. I can't put it down. Amazing. Let's see- The Right Stuff.
What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?
Great delivery. Didn't like his (perhaps) racist voices for some characters. Indian, German, Chinese. Skip the "[R]orry" for Chinese scientists, please.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The first resupply Iris... man! And I saw the movie, too.
Any additional comments?
Best Audible ever.
