What a waste of time
Revisado: 10-30-23
I can’t believe I had to endure 16 hours of a slow story to tell a couple of underlying narratives to an otherwise boring book. This book is overrated.

Historia
Down a narrow alley in the small coastal town of Mallow Island, South Carolina, lies a stunning cobblestone building comprised of five apartments. It's called The Dellawisp and it's named after the tiny turquoise birds who, alongside its human tenants, inhabit an air of magical secrecy. When Zoey Hennessey comes to claim her deceased mother's apartment at The Dellawisp, she meets her quirky, enigmatic neighbors including a girl on the run, a grieving chef whose comfort food does not comfort him, two estranged middle-aged sisters, and three ghosts. Each with their own story.

No clear plot, hard to stay interested.
Revisado: 08-22-23
Positives of the book: Sarah is very poetic in her writing.
Negatives: there is no clear plot and the scarcity of the ghosts in the book make them almost unworth the addition. I day almost because by the end, I think they added some beauty and meaning. I only finished the book to say I finished it.

Good book with a good mix of characters
Revisado: 05-16-23
When a book says there’s a gun in the safe you know that there will be a gun used. With this book you know something will happen, but by who? It was much less predictable and yet went in an order that you would hope for. I wanted it to be a series!

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Good story, wonderful narrator
Revisado: 01-11-23
I consume this kind of book and I definitely enjoyed this one! What kept me from a 5 star was her lack of commentary on research and who characters might have been inspired by like most historical fiction authors include. Basically, Kristin Hannah didn’t add her references.

Historia
Over thirty million people have read The Diary of a Young Girl, the journal teen-aged Anne Frank kept while living in an attic with her family and four other people in Amsterdam during World War II, until the Nazis arrested them and sent them to a concentration camp. But despite the many works—journalism, books, plays and novels—devoted to Anne’s story, none has ever conclusively explained how these eight people managed to live in hiding undetected for over two years—and who or what finally brought the Nazis to their door.

Everyone needs to read this book, spread the word!
Revisado: 06-24-22
This was an illuminating report of an incredible reopening of the cold case surrounding who betrayed the Frank’s and those hiding in the annex. Some reviews led me to think I would not have any answers by the end. This is not true, there are answers, and along the way you are awarded with more information and explanation of events, people, and background surrounding this time. I feel thoroughly edified and believe this book needs to be trending so that more people can discover this book and spread the word.

Incredible writing and story
Revisado: 05-23-22
The ONLY reason this is not a 5 star review was because the adult content scenes were too much for my taste and took away from the story, as well as limited who I can share this book with. Everything else about it was perfect. What’s more: it’s about as close to non fiction as a historical fiction book can get and so you get the reward of learning about the past and indulging in a fictional story all in one. The character development and story is wonderfully written.

Redundant with too many questions unanswered
Revisado: 04-28-22
This book frustrated me greatly. There was an overwhelming amount of inner dialogue that was circular and didn’t progress the story very far. It took forever to get to where we knew it was going. The questions that we really wanted to know about the history of the town and what happened there as well as explaining the supernatural aspects of the house were just left painfully open ended. I’m so mad about it. So much potential wasted and so many things unanswered that make these prequel books shaky as a foundation for the rest of the saga.

Namely, Selena Grimes, the wicked ghoul who will stop at nothing to return her guild, the Dirge, to their former glory. Hard to follow
Revisado: 07-11-20
It’s clear that Jennifer Bell has created a fantasy world with the hopes of gaining traction like Harry Potter. The premise of the story and the world she has created is unique and fun and just different in a good way. That’s why I listened to a second book in the series. The narrator has a snoozy voice that makes it easy to space out and miss chunks of the book. I started this on a road trip and my mom felt the same way. The story left me feeling blah. Honestly I never write book reviews, but I was so disappointed and I tried so hard to get into this! Unfortunately since this is book two, you’re probably in too deep and will want to listen. I’m sorry I didn’t warn you sooner.
