Shamed into shaping up, Merrik decides his bystanding days are over. He's going to rejoin the war effort against the cruel hunchback currently vying for the throne of Greymond. That's easier said than done. Along the way, Merrik must rescue himself and his companions from shipwreck, form an alliance with a sorceress who previously tried to murder him, infiltrate a city under siege, and concoct an unlikely plan to bring the war to a quick conclusion.

fun well written series
Revisado: 02-24-25
this review is for the 3rd book in the series, the 1st and 2nd were great and the 3rd hasn't lessened my opinion. its fun, there's tragedy, humor, and excitement. the pace wasn't slow and continued to capture the listeners interest. Hopefully the author has more books planned as he has left me filled with possibilities and expectations, frick'n awesome!

Historia
Greymond, the Scattered Kingdom, has been without a king for hundreds of years, a place ruled by squabbling barons and dukes. Occasionally, rumors arise: a king of the old blood has returned to claim his throne. These days, such claims are met with groans and eye-rolls. Pretenders abound . . . and are generally ignored. But scheming powers are plotting, machinations that have been in the works for years. This time . . . enter Merrik Niles.

great story line, humor, and narration
Revisado: 02-11-25
as the title says it's a great story, flows well, MC is relatable, magic system isn't complicated and makes sense. MC isn't over powered yet. a fun read, bought 2nd and 3rd in series. the story line is great as it's not one of those young kid character builds nor a LitRPG which has flooded the market recently. as a 50yr old adult who enjoys SF&Fantasy, listening to a book which doesn't have a whiny indecisive MC is a real pleasure

looking forward to more from this storyline
Revisado: 01-15-25
this was a very good book, the main character progression was steady and not overly long, the story line itself was exciting and I didn't tire of any other side character developments. honestly I didn't want to stop listening to it. Additionally the narration was excellent, the tone and accent enhanced the storyline, excited for more, device-audible, reviewer-male

story line and narrative were OK, way too much cursing. Think construction site when trying to image the amount of expletives used in the storyline. Again probably a great story line but I listened for about 2hrs before I had to turn it off.

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Revisado: 11-01-23
loved it, no struggle to finish, it ain't like the movies where series are crap, this is the 3rd and it's just as good as the first, love the 80's action movie references, I've seen them all. the action is fantastic and easy to follow, narration is bang on and throughly enjoyable. many thanks to all involved

Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

too many character introductions
Revisado: 12-01-20
I'm at Chapter 26 and am barely holding on to remembering who's who in the character lineup. Most of the characters are "bit" players and hardly worth hearing about. I keep thinking there will be a merging of characters or groups of characters into a relevant story line only to have more introduced. Then to realize that if all the characters were assembled it would be in some sort of huge empire wide party. I've lost interest and am annoyed that I can't return the book for a refund. The saying "A lot less talk with a little more action" applies here.

Historia
We colonized 700 planets. Humankind enjoyed the benefits of expansion room and the end of wars. We even disbanded our military. Then the Krall found us. The Krall have used thousands of years of combat to select the genes of the strongest and fastest warriors. They are a species determined to dominate the entire galaxy, through destruction and annihilation of every opponent.
Koban is an uninhabited high-gravity planet with impossibly fast savage animals, which employ organic superconducting nerves. This deadly world is where the Krall tested humans for war capability.

great story so so performance
Revisado: 08-25-20
this a great start to an awesome series. Yes, it can get very technical at times but that's a good thing for Geek's like me. If the version I bought is the "All new narration adds sound effects and eliminates issues noted in reviews" I'd hate to hear the old version. Mr. Freeman's reading performance is of novice quality at best. Book 2 of the Koban series is read by Eric Summerer and is MUCH better! Again Book 1 is a great story you'll enjoy it despite the narrator..
