This book is 100% non fiction. Every detail used was based on evidence. The book seems to leave nothing unsaid -to a fault. While I've enjoyed learning about the Radium Girls and telling friends about what I read. The book is so comprehensive I've found there isn't much for me to ruminate on, extrapolate, or think about since I finished the book a couple weeks ago. That being said, it is so well researched. I think it would be great if the author released an abridged version for less detail obsessed readers, I would definitely be able to convince my friends to read a shorter version. I heard the author say in an interview, the book was longer than she expected, which made me laugh because I agree.

So well written! Combines facts and various opinions to give content to the Formula 1 of today. The book follows a fairly chronological arch but doesn't get bogged down in history. A great read for new or old fans. I especially recommend if you're interested in the business of F1, or even just sports entertainment. Excellent narration too.

10x Longer Than it Should Be

I read the other reviews saying the examples and metaphors dragged on, but there were some valuable nuggets of information. I would say this is the least concise book I've ever listened to, I often skipped ahead 30s at a time through long-winded metaphors. Basically, chapters 1-6 should just be 1 chapter. Then, there is some value of the 7 Elements and B2B business types. Also the book is filled with attemps at 1 liner humor and broad generalization of generations as well as equating millennial to young people. I'm not sure if they are eager to write new editions, but the examples will become dated very quickly.

Also, I feel bad for saying this, but the narrator is AWFUL. He often changed voices in a way that felt sarcastic. (The weak content didn't help, but still.)

The interesting Tales of Stephanie

The story is an interesting collection of memoirs seamlessly tied together and an appropriate length. The story of Stephanie Johnson will break your heart, make you laugh, and possibly cause you to reflect on the stories you tell about your own life. I enjoy listening to stories from people with a life very different than mine. For the length of the book, it met my expectations and was worth the purchase. My only critique is that the stories are surface level, and the self-reflection needed more work to bring depth and vulnerability... but hey that's true for most of the stories people tell about themselves. I was throughly entertained throughout so 4 stars.

More Biography than Autobiography

The book seems written for younger readers, maybe middle or high school students. It reads like a biography, a series of Katherine Johnsons events with hirsotical context; rather than an autobiography that shares her feelings and personal experiences. For example she described the racism she experienced as a teen as something she didn't let bother her. She spent a few years away from her husband and said 'she missed him terribly.' The facts of the book and my curiosity was enough to get me to finish it. But it was shallow and lacked vulnerability. More time was spent educating the reader on basic US History, or introducing stats of every person in her life, then on sharing her personal experiences. I was very disappointed in this book, definitely felt like a quick publish after Hidden Figures, which I understand -but it showed.

This is a very interesting piece of historical fiction. I was eager to hear more of the story and it held my attention. I also found it very educational and I was frequently googling to learn more about characters, time lines, and the bridge building process. That being said it wasn't the best written book I've read and I actually think it would make a better move than a book. Just the same, I'm so glad I read it.

Also, some reviews are negative about the fiction part of historical fiction and I don't think their criticism is fair at all. The afterword sorts all of the facts from fiction for you. The point of this story is that Emily Roeblings life/ role in the bridge is largely undocumented but universally agreed to be significant. I think it was a good mix of educational facts, and interesting fiction.

I loved this book. It was so well written reflecting on the authors life, her being childless not by choice, and her desire to learn from different women she admired. The book follows her path to do something big, and interviews of women she admires in her quest to find out if motherhood makes you happy. She seamlessly flows between her journey to swim the English Channel and her conversations with uniqie, wise women reflecting on happiness. I was skeptical of the book at first but I'm so glad picked it up. I really appreciated that Jessica Hepburn decided to interview mothers, childfree women, childless women, great adventurers, leaders, and inspiration women to learn about happiness, fulfillment, and grief. Maybe its hard to write an interesting story on the highs and lows of ordinary life, but by capturing a little bit of so many different lives the book had me looking forward to my next commute.
