Historia
Rome, 56 BC. The great general Pompey has conquered the East; Julius Caesar is defeating the Gauls; only Egypt, with its strategic granaries and vast treasuries of gold, still eludes the grasp of Rome. The city itself is becoming ever more corrupt, as the last generation of the Roman Republic indulges in political backstabbing, endless lawsuits, scandalous love affairs, and the occasional murder.

couldn't endure the narrator
Revisado: 08-02-22
I generally enjoy this series and have read a number of them in somewhat Reckless order which doesn't really make that much difference. I gave up on this one within a couple of chapters because the narrator pontificates. it's simply got on my nerves. will continue with any of the series that doesn't include this person. not even for free and I Endure hours of this narration. it is probably remarkable that so many of these stories are done by excellent interpreters. I can sometimes adjust the speed or the volume to overcome problems but this one is absolutely impossible. don't give up on the stories if you can avoid this narrator. he's worse than a politician Roman or otherwise.

Historia
“No one believed I was destined for greatness.” So begins Isabella’s story, in this evocative, vividly imagined novel about one of history’s most famous and controversial queens - the warrior who united a fractured country, the champion of the faith whose reign gave rise to the Inquisition, and the visionary who sent Columbus to discover a new world. Acclaimed author C. W. Gortner envisages the turbulent early years of a woman whose mythic rise to power would go on to transform a monarchy, a nation, and the world.

what they forgot to tell us
Revisado: 04-26-22
we all learned of Ferdinand and Isabella on the fact that they were instrumental in sending Columbus on The Voyage to the new world. The caveat is that Isabella what's the queen and Ferdinand was dragged along because of course a queen had to have a man around. he was a Noble in his own right but no way want to eat a king until the Bell Gave Over and gave him top billing just to keep him around. She may have loved him they seem to work well together but he demanded top billing I'm being a wise woman she went along with it sometimes it pays to let them have their way apologies Elizabeth the first

Historia
The struggle between Rome and Carthage in the Punic Wars was arguably the greatest and most desperate conflict of antiquity. The forces involved and the casualties suffered by both sides were far greater than in any wars fought before the modern era, while the eventual outcome had far-reaching consequences for the history of the Western World, namely the ascendancy of Rome. An epic of war and battle, this is also the story of famous generals and leaders: Hannibal, Fabius Maximus, Scipio Africanus, and his grandson Scipio Aemilianus, who would finally bring down the walls of Carthage.

I'm a sucker for elephants
Revisado: 04-26-22
this was actually a war between Carthage and Rome. it became the Punic Wars partially because the original combatants made it to long title but also because all of the tribes in both Empires got into the act and switched sides unmercifully. I remembered Hannibal and the elephants my officers training class on tactics undecided to learn about the whole War. at the time I felt that the Cavalry was misused. 100 years later I was glad to hear but Hannibal was still being taught. I was afraid they had moved on two Grand Theft Auto. I was relieved to know that I was partially correct the fight in the final battle that gave room victory the Cavalry save today. Of course that was a hundred years later or doesn't last 100 years.

high octane depression
Revisado: 04-26-22
I knew from the prologue but this was not going to be a cozy. It was lyrical and I expected more from it. it starts out depressing and move right along that trail. I'm from the prologue you know it isn't going to end well but ending well I'm getting there I'm So Hood fashion is more than I could take. Enough with the prison cell. I simply gave up hoping for anything better anywhere along the line. unless you enjoy being really depressed I suggest you pass

sometimes problem is not definable. this was just blah. it wasn't entertaining only confusing. I believe a large portion the failure lies with the narrator who does not adequately clarify the characters. I am extremely disappointed with the narrator because he has shown farmer range in other Medias.

Historia
The epitome of the romantic literary hero, Lord Byron was as well known in his time for the revolutionary panache with which he lived as for his extremely popular verse. “As a myth,” wrote Bertrand Russell, “his importance, especially on the continent, was enormous.” His many tempestuous relationships were the subject of scandal which only added to his celebrity. His name has even entered into our language to describe a man of deep passion and defiance.

an embarrassment
Revisado: 02-19-22
there may be nothing intrinsically wrong with this book. however the thought that we lost some 50,000 troops on Normandy Beach well Paris let in the not face and packed up their art I found extremely distressing. I have seen a number of museums but not a one that carried anything worse the number of lives we lost why the parisians packed their treasures and let in the Nazis.

Jeeves again
Revisado: 02-01-22
kudos to the author who had the nerve to take on the master. Considering the cottage industry that has come over Jane Austen's work without the strong base given I Roadhouse it's not surprising but you have tackled the map. The author does an excellent job although he falls into the pit that comes uncertain Road House books of having so many complicated lines but it should be half a dozen books instead of one. he succeeds in introducing many of the standard characters I'm bringing them to mind and introducing them to new readers. If you've never met Jeeves welcome aboard go back to the original as well. by this author be as prolific as the original.

enough with the religious wars
Revisado: 01-27-22
I love the first two books in this series so much that I actually used my carefully hoarded credits. But I am sick of religious wars real and imagined. Royce and Hadrian or as good as ever understory had some moments but I did not finish it simply because as I said I am sick of religious wars real or imagined and I think fantasy can pick one and stay with it without preaching add an innocent reader. I usually don't go on this long and as I am vision impaired and annoyed I am not even going to proofread. I may try another of their Adventures but this one is just hopeless as far as I am concerned. Such a disappointment
