Historia
Eugenie Markham is a powerful shaman who does a brisk trade banishing spirits and fey who cross into the mortal world. Mercenary, yes, but a girl's got to eat. Her most recent case, however, is enough to ruin her appetite. Hired to find a teenager who has been taken to the Otherworld, Eugenie comes face to face with a startling prophecy - one that uncovers dark secrets about her past and claims that Eugenie's first-born will threaten the future of the world as she knows it.

Loved it
Revisado: 03-14-25
I was surprised I hadn’t seen this sooner considering I’m a long longtime fan of Vampire Academy and the Ruby Circle.
This book is funny and surprisingly sexy. Also the narrator has a classically matured female voice that I found fitting for the main character.
I’m excited to listen to all of this series. Although I’m a bit concerned for the 4th book. It doesn’t have great reviews saying the story was left unfinished and rushed. I find endings to be most important to a good book. A lot of writers have lost this ability to solidify a good ending. I will still listen to the series though.

Historia
Loren Calla has only ever been ordinary. As a human struggling to survive in a city that caters to the needs of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other supernatural creatures, she always assumed her life would remain simple, predictable, and as safe as her world would allow. Until she barely escapes abduction at the hands of Darkslayers—supernatural bounty hunters that possess the Sight, a magical tracking ability that allows them to see a person's aura—and one of her friends is taken in her place. The abductors are demanding a ransom: Loren's life in exchange for her friend's safe return.

Cringing
Revisado: 02-06-25
Every word ushered is forced bedroom voice. On both sides it’s unnatural, over dramatic, and slow. I’m a quarter into the book and after several hours I can’t stand to listen to it any more. Also, the male character has a bit of a nasally lisp
Reading
This author is an over writer. Too many unnecessary details slowing the reading. The female is a submissive wimp. The male is a macho man boss without any supporting evidence of this. We are just told he is bad ass and everyone follows him around.
Ew. Nothing says romance like a guy snorting drugs while the girl is sitting across from him. Snorting for focus/Super senses active. You lost me on chapter 15.
Nothing is happening just a lot of boring talk that can be skipped over.

Voice change
Revisado: 06-09-23
I get that they put a planked voice actor in place of Adrian’s point of view. What I hate is that the female voice actor changed Adrian’s voice. It was perfect for the character in the first 3 books. This one and the last two were painful to listen to and ruined the character for me. I had to turn it off and read it.

Feyre has undergone more trials than one human woman can carry in her heart. Though she’s now been granted the powers and lifespan of the High Fae, she is haunted by her time Under the Mountain and the terrible deeds she performed to save the lives of Tamlin and his people. As her marriage to Tamlin approaches, Feyre’s hollowness and nightmares consume her. Self inflicting abuse
Revisado: 03-05-23
Don't get me wrong! This book is well worth reading. It is very good after you get over the sickening depressive main female character who refuses to eat and is so self-consumed by herself you want to puke with her. For a strong character who fought so hard in the first book this version of Feyre is unbelievable and too pathetic to enjoy. The closed-minded first-person perspective makes this most difficult to get past.
As someone who actually lived through years of child abuse and has been surrounded by people who have self-abused themselves, this character is an author's romantic fantasy of what they imagine saving a sad fated person from abuse would be. It is hard for me to want to support this spoiled character.

Hell yes!
Revisado: 03-05-23
The kind of sexy, badass adult novels I live to read. Also, Jim Frangione has a voice that is sex on the ears. No one human should sound that good.
I absolutely love J.R. Ward's work and I especially loved the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. In a way I still do, but after the 11th book, this series doesn't go anywhere. Still, it is well worth reading. I've read nearly all of them up to then twice. There is a strong storyline with a plot that leads you from one book to the next as you drive deeper into the world getting closer and closer to battling with the Omega.
However, after years of following J.R Ward that story has fallen flat, becoming another dime a dozen, never advancing to the next big thing. I really hope she picks up the story again. The characters are all there! The world is set. Just please give us the rich depth of the epic story we all need and I know you can create!

Did J.R. Ward Give Up on the Story?
Revisado: 03-05-23
Don't get me wrong! I absolutely love J.R. Ward's work and I especially loved the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. In a way I still do. It's badass, funny at times, and downright sexy, but this series isn't going anywhere.
There was once a strong storyline with a plot that lead you from one book to the next as you drive deeper into the world getting closer and closer to battling with the Omega. Now however that story has fallen flat, becoming another dime a dozen, never advancing to the next big thing. I had high hopes that it would take off in the Black Dagger Legacy spin-off series but then it too abruptly cut off. The Black Dager: Prison Camp also starts out strong but then falls flat. I'm beginning to get bored and tired of being dragged along.

Her heart, though, is back up North, with the only man who has ever gotten through her defenses: Assail, who never meant to fall in love - certainly not with a human woman. But they have no future, and not just because she doesn’t know he is a vampire, but because he is not about to stop dealing arms to the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Fate, however, has other plans for them.
