Ms. Brown has a way of telling a story and holding your attention while explaining information that is thought-provoking. I feel so fortunate that Ms Brown has chosen to share her gift with the rest of us. This book more evidence of her genius.

Unconvincing Characters
Revisado: 11-03-21
Because of the number of characters and the fact that I am listening while working I found it hard to keep track character’s individual storylines. There were a couple of storylines that didn’t add much value and just made the book less enjoyable. The in-law storyline wasn’t followed through to the end and to be honest that storyline was a bit unbelievable because it was written as a stereotype. Actually several characters were written this way. The most likable character in this book is written as a cat lady but we never get to hear about her cats.
The performance was very good.
It’s really too bad because this could have been a good book if the characters were written differently. There was a nice twist with the who-done-it.

Historia
Shelby works as a dog walker in northern California, and she’s just finished up her bi-weekly trip to the park with a husky named Pluto. When she brings him back to his house, she finds his owner - Todd Burke, a well-known local businessman and founder of an organic supplements company - lying on the bathroom floor, dead. A detective arrives on the scene. As she interviews Shelby, the body is inspected by a medical examiner, and more cops search Todd’s home, it becomes clear that the victim’s life was less picture-perfect than his clean-cut persona might lead you to believe.

Revisado: 04-21-20
The fastest 16 hrs of my life. I didn't want to stop listening but I had to from time to time.
So many secrets, so many questions, so many things that don't make sense to a daughter and then they as she pieces it together through to the end.
My only criticism of the book is using the word pig too much. Do people actually use that term?
Narrator Kathleen Early was delightful to listen to.
I see this is going to on Netflix. I can't wait to see who is cast and how they capture the emotions.

Quite enjoyable
Revisado: 03-06-20
I enjoyed The Other Daughter. There was a bit of sleuthing and mystery, enough to keep my attention. The performance was excellent. I gave the overall score and the story 4 stars because I guessed the truth before it was revealed.
I think this would make for an interesting movie or even a series given the contrast of characters, locations, and subplots.

Historia
Cassie McDowell’s life in 1980s Minnesota seems perfectly wholesome. She lives on a farm, loves school, and has a crush on the nicest boy in class. Yes, there are her parents’ strange parties and their parade of deviant guests, but she’s grown accustomed to them. All that changes when someone comes hunting in Lilydale. One by one, local boys go missing. One by one, they return changed - violent, moody, and withdrawn. What happened to them becomes the stuff of shocking rumors. The accusations of who’s responsible grow just as wild, and dangerous town secrets start to surface.

Worth the listen
Revisado: 01-23-20
I chose this book because of the write-up and other reviews. At first, when I realized the book's narrator was a child I was a bit put off but I quickly found it added a unique perspective to the story. I was reeled in quickly and finished the book in 3 days which is quick for me.
Cassie, the story's narrator, is a relatable 12-year-old. She and her older sister Perstephanie (sp?) both come of age in the 1980's. However, this is not a book for teens unless you plan on having some serious conversations with your child. The material is dark and could be disturbing for some. It's real-life stuff a lot of people are aware of exists in the world or may have experienced themselves. Dad is a Vietnam vet and mom is a sweet school teacher but as a couple they have their own not-so-secret secrets. All this plays out as Cassie's male classmates are being terrorized by an unknown assailant.
Caitlin Kelly is fabulous as the storyteller Cassie. It can't be easy narrating/performing a 12-year-old. I gave the story 4 stars but would have given 4.5 stars if I could. The reason it's not a 5 is because the felt the ending was rushed and cut short. I wanted to know how the girls carried on.

Revisado: 10-23-19
Audible has done it again. I didn’t want to stop listening when my day was through. I can’t remember the last time I felt so connect to characters from the beginning. I cried, I smiled, I stopped what I was doing to listen more intently. This is my kind of mystery story. Twists and turns and a surprise ending kept me engaged.

Historia
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

Lively performance
Revisado: 07-01-19
The performance of this audible original makes it worth the listen alone. The story is well written and the storyline interesting. I was quite jarred by the revelations and disclosures and didn't anticipate the ending that occurred. If this had been a movie I might have looked away during some parts for fear of a hauntingly scary face in dim lighting. I recommend listening to this in the day time or else you may find yourself with some bad dreams.
