Historia
A ship captain, unfettered from time. A mute child, burdened with unimaginable power. A millennia-old woman, haunted by lifetimes of mistakes. In this captivating debut of connection across space and time, these outsiders will find in each other the things they lack: a place of love and belonging. A safe haven. A new beginning. But the past hungers for them, and when it catches up, it threatens to tear this makeshift family apart.

Great book. Wow.

I loved this novel. Would have loved for it to last a bit longer, but wow, ended it misty eyed.
I will say the narrator did a pretty great job, despite her portrayal of male characters being hard to distinguish at times. Other than that she was great.
Great book if you love space opera. Highly recommend.

Historia
Augustine, a brilliant, aging astronomer, is consumed by the stars. For years he has lived in remote outposts, studying the sky for evidence of how the universe began. At his latest posting, in a research center in the Arctic, news of a catastrophic event arrives. The scientists are forced to evacuate, but Augustine stubbornly refuses to abandon his work. Shortly after the others have gone, Augustine discovers a mysterious child, Iris, and realizes that the airwaves have gone silent.

A decent story.

I did enjoy this story a lot. Beautifully written. I was hoping it would focus a bit more on Augustine’s research as an astronomer and less on how he was somewhat of a slightly sociopathic traumatized misanthrope near the end of his life in the Arctic. I guess I just expected more of a focus on the beauty of life than the misery of the two characters’. Other than that I did enjoy the story quite a bit. Everything tied together nicely in the end.

During a time of uncertainty like we are in right now... I honestly couldn’t have found a better book. I didn’t expect to love this book as much as i do. But after listening to this I purchased the paperback and cannot wait to read it in the future. For those who feel existence is insignificant, or are prone to nihilistic views of the world and universe: I implore you to read this book. I have never been more proud to be an Ant.
