Short and sweet, advice and inspiration
Revisado: 07-10-24
This isn’t a comprehensive guide to day trading, or a textbook, or anything like that. It’s a great starting point for anyone interested in day trading as a beginner, but also an easily digestible refresher on core principles and philosophy that’s really useful even as someone already doing the work. Great read!

Not for everyone, but definitely for some!
Revisado: 03-06-24
Overall, definitely interesting and enjoyable, and really came together in the end…but although I am really close to being exactly the right person to love this book, it was difficult to get though.
The many narrative asides are performed well and do turn out to be important to the story, but they made it difficult for me to maintain interest for long. I also didn’t find any of the characters likable, and therefore wasn’t really invested.
However, the thought and passion that went into this book shows. It’s really clever, and very relevant, especially now in early 2024. It was a bit ahead of its time, as it turns out.
If the subject matter (AI, technology in general, sociopolitical intersection with them, etc.) interests you, and you enjoy good writing and performance for their own sake, I recommend it.
If, however, you really prefer a tight narrative that constantly drives forward, this is tough to recommend. I’m glad I finished it, but it wasn’t easy for me. :)

Mystery and suspense…in space!

Well written, compelling plot and characters. The ending left a bit to be desired, but that’s expected for the beginning of such a long series. I can’t wait to read the rest!

Unsatisfying in a good way
Revisado: 07-11-21
This book isn’t perfect. It’s not complete. It is more philosophical than practical, focusing mainly on ideas. But that’s a good thing. The hardest part of day trading is the psychological aspect, certainly for me, and I generally hear the same from others as well. I can only imagine the mess a “complete” book on the topic would be. So I think this approach is a good one. The only thing that I think is not good is that there are some things (especially references to indicators and charts, and specific market terminology) which will really not make any sense unless you’re already participating in and someone knowledgeable regarding the market. I don’t know that there’s a way around that, but it makes this a difficult recommendation to someone new to day trading. Personally, I found the perspective here helpful. I just would have been very confused at a few points if I wasn’t already immersed in trading. So for me it’s a good overview and jumping off point for learning and gaining more experience.

Historia
Ikigai is a Japanese phenomenon commonly understood as "your reason to get up in the morning". Ikigai can be small moments: the morning air, a cup of coffee, a compliment. It can also be deep convictions: a fulfilling job, lasting friendships, balanced health. Whether big or small, your ikigai is the path to success and happiness in your own life. Author Ken Mogi introduces five pillars of ikigai to help you make the most of each day and become your most authentic self.

A lot of good, varied information
Revisado: 01-20-20
The narrator is fine, though a number of mispronunciations were prevalent. I’ve read other books that were much more focused on “doing” ikigai, more self-help, and was pleasantly surprised at home much time this one spends on the cultural and historical connections. Very enjoyable, and, I think well-balanced.

An unexpected detective story
Revisado: 06-18-19
This surprised me as being not at all what I expected from a story in the Alien universe, but incredibly enjoyable and engaging. Couldn’t stop listening. I thought this would bridge the gap between Prometheus and Covenant, but it’s truly a prologue to the latter story. Well worth a listen.

Enjoyable, but transitory
Revisado: 06-13-18
This story doesn’t really have a beginning or end of its own, so it can be a bit unsatisfying in some ways. But it was interesting and I enjoyed it nonetheless. Just keep in mind that you’ll probably want the other books as well. Out of the Shadows is well worth it.

As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Great way to continue the nightmares with Ripley
Revisado: 05-30-18
The cast is a bit uneven, but Lefkow does a great Weaver impression and her Ripley and Hoop were really great to listen to. I enjoyed the novel more, but I think that’s just a personal presence for prose over dramatization.

An interesting bridge between Alien and Aliens
Revisado: 05-27-18
I really enjoyed this. It was enjoyable and suspenseful, and feels right at home in the series. The best part is seeing how they managed to integrate this into the timeline, and I found it very satisfying.
