discussion prompt for young teens/tweens
Revisado: 08-01-18
The message is grossly oversimplified, but it's also aimed at kids, leaving me to wonder if the subject matter even works in a kid's book. On the other hand, I did personally find the book thought provoking. I found that I have lots of questions and want to know more. I'm definitely sceptical. This book was promptly followed up by a string of questions and a series of google searches. However, none of these questions came from my son, who is 5 and had zero interest in this book. He loves other stories from the series, but I would definitely recommend this title for tweens and young teens. It's possibly a good springboard for discussion, but far from my favorite in the series.

Terrific story and message
Revisado: 07-19-18
Friendship, diplomacy, and the dangers of xenophobia. This book explores what happens when we give into our fears and mistreat others in an attempt to gain advantage. The Twins and their campmates learn about the non-agression principle, the golden rule, and the endless cycle that is revenge. There's a lot more packed into this book than I can list. It's a fun listen too. A little long winded and preachy at the end, but what can I say? I prefer an understated message. Still, it's a great story with an even better message. Thumbs up!

An interesting educational story
Revisado: 07-18-18
The twins save their city's foods trucks and battle protectionism. The best thing about this book is that the protagonists are anything but passive recipients of information this time. They ask questions, then they get organized and act. This is one of the more engaging stories in the series.

Great message, Pretty good story
Revisado: 07-18-18
This is my 5 yr old's favorite from the series. He's very curious about how things get made, and this book does a terrific job of explaining how something as simple as a pencil requires cooperation of diverse peoples around the world. It's a wonderful children's introduction to the global market. The story isn't exactly dynamic, but the book does successfully make its point without excessive preaching while holding my child's interest. I wish Boyack got a little more creative in his story telling, but overall this book is effective and thought provoking. I'd recommend it for children 5-11. The audio makes a great companion to the physical book.

Great concept, lacks real storytelling
Revisado: 07-18-18
The twins interview their neighbor, and he answers their questions. There's no real story here. I like the message, but it reads like propaganda. My 5 year old liked the book somewhat, but he clearly wasn't thrilled. Kids want to feel something when they listen to a book. They want to take a journey. They want characters who struggle and learn from their experiences. The twins learn by politely asking questions and taking notes. That's not very engaging. It is a little weird. Still, it does successfully get its points across. I applaud the author and illustrator for their effort, because the subject matter is both worthwhile and underrepresented in children's literature.
