Historia
When Dr. Georges Moutte is found murdered, investigator Antoine Verlaque is stumped. Certainly the director of theology at the Universite d'Aix had his enemies. Moutte was just about to name the recipient of an elite fellowship as well as his own successor - a highly coveted position - when his lips were sealed permanently. But Verlaque isn't convinced anyone in the tiny community of academics is capable of murder.

Delightful improvement
Revisado: 06-16-23
I came to this book via the woeful attempt at a TV miniseries. While actors were great, the scripts had been WOKED and plots changed,
But the book is delightful and the narrator is a dream. Such fine narration and the author brings out the beauties and traditions and culinary art of Provence. Look forward to
listening to the entire series.

Scott Brick is John Corey
Revisado: 10-23-22
Like politicians, actors and athletes, authors have to know when to retire. Nelson Demille is 89 and his writing, plotting and repetition is an excellent example. What saves this book is Scott Brick whose rendition of John Corey is excellent. It is too bad the John Corey Brick is given is a shadow of his former self, but even with that Scott Brick does a great job. .

If only Flashman had got on with his dinner and ignored the handkerchief dropped by a flirtatious hussy in a Calcutta hotel... well, American history might have been different, a disastrous civil war might have been avoided, and Flash Harry himself would have been spared one of the most hair-raising adventures of his misspent life. If only... but alas, the arch-rotter of the Victorian age could never resist the lure of a pretty foot.

The Trilogy
Revisado: 05-16-20
I have enjoyed listening to seven of the recorded Flashman novels, I am sorry they were not all recorded.
David Case is marvelous.
The historical background contained is excellent. His point of view is politically incorrect but spot on in my opinion.
Some of the plots are slightly formulaic and near the end of the series repetitive.
His amorous explicit sexual adventures/conquests can become tiresome at times.
Flashman for Freedom, Flashman and the Red Skins, Flashman and the Angel of the Lord make a wonderful American History trilogy.

Historia
David Bentley Hart undertook this new translation of the New Testament in the spirit of "etsi doctrina non daretur", "as if doctrine is not given". Reproducing the texts' often fragmentary formulations without augmentation or correction, he has produced a pitilessly literal translation, one that captures the texts' impenetrability and unfinished quality while awakening listeners to an uncanniness that often lies hidden beneath doctrinal layers.

Back To the sources of The Source
Revisado: 07-04-18
David Bentley Hart is a remarkable Orthodox formerly Anglican theologian with a very sharp intellect. He has gone back to original Greek texts and created his own translation of the New Testament. With all the recent modern translations which attempt to revise and soften the meaning of the New Testament for the sake of Political Correctness. Hart lets the texts speak for themselves with word choices that are often stark and lively. The reader Eric Martin does an excellent job. This audio version is especially appropriate for those who are familiar with New Testament. It is a pleasure and a revelation to listen to. It may give one's theological perspective a refreshing work out.

Subpar story with a very predictable plot and for me a very annoying young hero.
The action sequences were exciting to listen to. The cultural backgrounds of India.,. Hindu and Muslim were interesting as far as they went.

But in a time when the supernatural realm is in upheaval and spilling over into the mundane world of the living, his skills are in renewed demand. With old debts to pay, Castor is left with no choice but to accept one final, well-paying assignment: a seemingly simple exorcism.

Inconsistent Metaphysics
Revisado: 03-21-17
Any additional comments?
The 21st century seems to produce authors who sloppily twist the definitions of possession, ghosts, the hereafter, demons, exorcism, etc.,. This could have been an incredible novel. Instead it comes across as a mismash of inconsistent metaphysical concepts woven into a crazy plot. It was entertaining overall, but frustrating. The narrator was first class. However, I will not read the next novel in the series.

This was my first Steven Berry "adventure". While I appreciated the voluminous tidbits about Chinese history like Mao's failed embalming and his communist inspired genocide, the actual plot line was terrible and characters laughable. The torture scenes were unnecessary. Scott Brick reads well as always, but even he cannot save this monstrosity. Awful!

Historia
A notorious, international big-game hunter and his beautiful, former dental hygienist wife are gunned down at long range late one sweltering summer night, while swimming naked on their seaside estate in opulent Rancho Bonita, California. Police investigators are convinced that the killer is a strident, outspoken animal-rights activist, with both military experience and a criminal record. The evidence against him would appear overwhelming - until rumors begin to surface that others may have had their own reasons for committing murder.

Revisado: 11-15-16
Any additional comments?
The Cordell Logan series has been like a roller coaster. Some great stories and some not so This fifth novel returns to the themes which work well. Logan's humorous social commentary, his cat and his land lady. His love interests. His spiritual journey. His flying. His ability to take action and to solve mysteries. Is it formulaic? To a degree yes. Some of the plot lines are predictable ie the coffee. But in this case it is a good thing. Ray Porter does an excellent job.

For all of my adult life I have been bombarded with snippets of Don Quixote never quite understanding the meaning and purpose of this figure. Listening to this excellent translation and performance, I reveled in the humor and wisdom and pathos and social critiques therein to be found. Remarkable!
