Irma Joubert brilliantly told the 2 stories of the 2 men on opposite sides of World War II. The reader assumes that their paths would cross. At times this seems almost impossible, yet the 2 stories evolve quite realistically and believably to end on a farm in Africa. Excellently told, set in respective milieu and events that were thoroughly researched and expertly woven into the book. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The narration is quite good, although a little more could have been made of the various European accents.

This book bring the authors' previous books nicely together. It is insightful and practical. The "4 S" and the acronym "PEACE" are really valuable tools that are easy to remember. Using them, however, takes practice and dedication.

Excellent narration.
Not your average Deon Meyer story, but still very good, highly enjoyable, creatively constructed and excellently told.

This award-winning book is really about the entrapment of the mind by our limited experiential reality. The gripping story of Saul Barnard and the Knysna forest is masterfully told by Dalene Mathee. She seamlessly mastered the sliding forward and backward in time to build to the tragic yet joyful conclusion. A masterpiece. Excellently narrated by Anrich Herbst.

If you could sum up The Power of Habit in three words, what would they be?

How to change

Who was your favorite character and why?

EP. The realisation that habits are performed without the brain, or at least memory and reason, being involved, is scary! EP encouraged me to get my whole brain involved in every moment of my life.

What does Mike Chamberlain bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Good intonation, good pace, calming tones when appropriate but also voice variation and excitement at the right moments. Well read, sir.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Habits can be changed by getting your brain involved. Understand the interaction between cue, craving, routine and reward. Well explained and illustrated.

Any additional comments?

I wish I had read (or listened to) this book long ago. I recommend this rather highly to parents, grandparents, managers, leaders, coaches, spouses. Actually, to everyone interested in living a purposeful life.

What made the experience of listening to Thinking, Fast and Slow the most enjoyable?

It was very insightful on many fronts, eg investments. human behaviour, etc.
However, the audiobook is very long and one can easily lose track.
There is perhaps too much information to digest in one listen. I need to listen to it again to fully comprehend the significance of it all.

Have you listened to any of Patrick Egan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, not that I can recall, but this performance is not bad at all.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me determined to think even more than I already do. Is that an extreme reaction? Perhaps, in today's world, where so few people seem to think at all ...

Any additional comments?

The author is a Nobel prize winner. It shows.

Would you consider the audio edition of Sheet Music to be better than the print version?

This is recommended reading/listening for all heterosexual married couples. Read it before the Big Day and then re-read it every 2 years.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did, but it could be equally effective to listen to in several chapter-by-chapter sittings.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Maybe if the author taught with more wisdom and maturity, the experience could have been better. This was a little like a Sunday school sermon for folk with oversized ego's. I was hoping to get some insight into managing and living with people with bloated ego's. But there was none of that. A lot of irrelevant stuff on why it's bad to have an ego. In many cases the link between the issues/examples being discussed and ego itself, was vague or inappropriate.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something on public speaking and connecting with people.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment with the content, and the audio performance.

What did you love best about An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth?

The authenticity of the narrative. The (mostly) gripping storylines. The useful, first-hand insight into the life of an astronaut. The very useful lessons from it.
What I really enjoyed, is that Chris Hadfield doesn't "preach" on what to do and what not. He doesn't give a 10-point self-improvement list of things to learn or do. He simply tells his story, and the perceptive reader can apply the lessons Chris had learned to his/her own situation, or not.
There are precious jewels hidden in Hadfield's story. Take this one example: "No situation is so bad that you cannot make it worse."

Who was your favorite character and why?

Chris Hadfield himself, of course. But then, his sons and wife seem to be worth getting to know better.

Which character – as performed by Chris Hadfield – was your favorite?

Chris Hadfield himself.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, but I did recommend it to several friends and gave it as a gift to one friend.

Any additional comments?

This book is one of the best books that I have ever read. It covers one of the most important themes (or principles) in life. It illustrates the crucial principle of the path vivdly with well-told personal stories. The book is a critically important key to changing anyone's life - that is, change in any aspect of life. It is not primarily a christian book, a religous book, and definitely not one of those self-help self-improvement guides. It accurately and objectively introduces the principle of the path and shows how it affects everything in life, such as gravity affecting everything on planet earth. Whether you like it or nor, and whether you know about the priciple of the path or not, it always applies like gravity would whether you know about it not. Its an excellent must-read (or must-listen). I intend to read it annually from now on. I recommend it highly!
