Historia
An Internal Family Systems Guide to Recovery from Eating Disorders: Healing Part by Part addresses the necessity of healing the eating disorder sufferer's three groups of inner "Parts": the Mentors, the Advocates, and the Kids. In order to reconnect to their sense of Self and to achieve an inner balance necessary for recovery, the listener learns to address the unique needs of each of their "Parts." This book combines examples from the author's client cases and her own recovery with a step-by-step framework for identifying and healing the listeners' Parts using the IFS model.

Narrator sounds condescending; unlistenable.
Revisado: 11-27-24
… and she reads regular prose as if it’s conversation and it’s so incredibly annoying. I don’t need the narrator to sound as if they are pretending to be the author thinking of every word before they write it down. Making the book sound like a conversation really, really weakens it. Just read. I would not get another book by this narrator. I pushed through listening to the second half of this book, and coming back to it again…it is just awful. The narrator makes this helpful book unlistenable.

Revisado: 09-18-22
Ruby Dee brings this novel that was already so vivid and so imaginative to an entirely new level of experience. The only fly in the ointment is the ridiculous guitar music interlude; piano would have been so much more appropriate.

Takes too long to get to the actual help
Revisado: 06-21-20
I don’t know why this book has so many 5 star reviews. It is literally just telling you why you picked it up until chapter 7. So many self-help books are like this. It’s frustrating. There has been little actual HOW TO (which is the subtitle of the book!!), up until the last third of the book.

Historia
Some Americans cling desperately to the myth that we are living in a post-racial society, that the election of the first Black president spelled the doom of racism. In fact, racist thought is alive and well in America - more sophisticated and more insidious than ever. And as award-winning historian Ibram X. Kendi argues in Stamped from the Beginning, if we have any hope of grappling with this stark reality, we must first understand how racist ideas were developed, disseminated, and enshrined in American society.

Audible needs quality control
Revisado: 03-28-20
I’ve already read the hard copy of this book. It is a magnificent book. Do not miss it. Get the audio. There are several spots, however, where it is clear that the production/direction was not proof listened, and that is too bad. It is an issue with production and not the reading or the reader. I expect better quality from Audible and Amazon.

Historia
Technically speaking, slavery was not legal in the English-speaking world before the mid-17th century. But long before race-based slavery was entrenched in law and practice, English men and women were well aware of the various forms of human bondage practiced in other nations and, in less systematic ways, their own country. In wide-ranging detail, Slaves and Englishmen demonstrates how slavery shaped the ways the English interacted with people and places throughout the Atlantic world. As this revealing history shows, the implications of slavery were closely connected to the question of what it meant to be English.

Still trying to ascertain whether the author is sugarcoating the history.
The man reading sounds like he's performing an infomercial, which is especially annoying given the subject.

Historia
The successful 1776 revolt against British rule in North America has been hailed almost universally as a great step forward for humanity. But the Africans then living in the colonies overwhelmingly sided with the British. In this trailblazing book, Gerald Horne shows that in the prelude to 1776, the abolition of slavery seemed all but inevitable in London, delighting Africans as much as it outraged slaveholders, and sparking the colonial revolt.

Tried to like it ...
Revisado: 05-20-19
At the beginning the reader says the book is being "performed by ..."
It does not need to be performed - only read. The emphasis and choppy pauses and pacing make it hard to follow thoughts. Sometimes I can't tell where the reader is in the sentence as they run together. I am so sad that I can't listen to this book because the subject is so fantastic.

Historia
In AD 66, nationalist and religious revolutionaries in Judaea led a ferocious revolt of the Jewish people against the authority of mighty Rome, culminating in the greatest upheaval and savagery the world had known up to that time. By the end of the conflict seven years later, over one million Jews had perished and tens of thousands were sold into slavery. Until the Holocaust, it remained the greatest tragedy ever endured by a people. How had this once prosperous region been laid low, and by what process did its fratricidal feuds take it down a slippery slope to utter annihilation? Fortunately for us, there was an eyewitness.

Mississippi, 1955: 14-year-old Emmett Till was murdered by a white mob after making flirtatious remarks to a white woman, Carolyn Bryant. Till's attackers were never convicted, but his lynching became one of the most notorious hate crimes in American history. It launched protests across the country, helped the NAACP gain thousands of members, and inspired famous activists like Rosa Parks to stand up and fight for equal rights for the first time.

Historia
The average person has 70,000 thoughts every day, and many of those thoughts trigger a corresponding emotion. No wonder so many of us often feel like we're controlled by our emotions. Our lives would be much improved is we controlled them. Joyce Meyer discusses the way that the brain processes and stores memories and thoughts, and then - emotion by emotion - she explains how we can manage our reactions to those emotions.

excellent info, poor reading
Revisado: 08-26-12
I'm a huge Joyce Meyer fan - have maybe 7-8 of her seminar teachings and 3-4 books. This is my first audiobook from her. Great, practical and inspired info that follows the bible very closely. The narrator leaves a lot to be desired - her tone of voice sounds like she is trying to explain a complicated subject to a room full of second graders. Still, the content in this book makes it worth putting up with the poor narration.
