story is engaging, performance is terrible
Revisado: 10-15-24
Great story and a view of what might become if things go south in the current state of political landscape. Performance was terrible, everyone either had a country hillbilly accent when they shouldn't or a midwestern accent when they shouldn't. Sound is inconsistent and they narrator's voice didnt help being as gravelly as it is. hard to listen most of the time

jarring and dis jointed story telling
Revisado: 04-09-24
Ok, full disclosure, I've been a fan of all of Jason Anspach and Nick Cole's books for several years now. Together they have never written a bad book. Most are great and some a just good. This was about as close as you can get to me wanting to return the book. This has probably some of the most disjointed story telling hands down. It was jarring when transitioning from the main story to a character backstory , dedicating 30+ min to this, to then go back to the beginning of the even where you left off. This happens more often in the middle third of the book. It often felt like a disorganized stream of consciousness. The first and last third of the book was nice and well organized, easy to follow where in the world any of the characters were at any given moment. The middle lost me and many characters that were inconsequential to the story got a backstory that I did not care about. I dont care the black prince did a group of mercs dirty in a deal, they're going to die anyway.

Worst MCU style dialog
Revisado: 03-08-24
So I'm about half way in to this and all I can say is that Jeremy really dropped the ball here by injecting his ideology. Grahm is saved by every woman within in a 100ft radius. The dialog is not very well thought out and it reads cluncky and harsh. Every other line is either a dick or sex joke and it gets old really quick. Then between those lines he's either complaining about being old or getting called an old man. Migo is bordering on a Mary Sue. She's an expert driver, expert hacker, lock smith, marksman etc with no established statement in the story except "hey she did great on her aptitude test".....ok cool, but that doesn't explain maybe if she's weak in a particular skill set. From what I've noticed every man is a pig, incompetent, or both. Every woman is one aspect of a Mary Sue and all are Intimidating. Jeremy's political leanings are bleeding in to the story and the only thing saving it are the monsters.

Historia
Thinly veiled fiction, Wrath of the Wendigo is the story of America 2.0, how a crumbling empire gave birth to a new republic. Wendigo General Eric Hansen has undertaken a mission to personally deliver a message to the rulers of the old world. Still powerful, still dangerous, and still locked onto the throat of the fledgling republic.

Narrator tells the story in ALL CAPS.

the story is great but the narrator is effectively yelling at you the entire time and makes no vocal distinction between characters so you tend to get lost in the conversation

Historia
The enemy is coming. The enemy is already here. For years they’ve prepared, plotted, and planned. For years they’ve waited to strike from above and below. Earth is under siege. The enemy covers the landscape. Proxima is unharmed. But that’s about to change. No armies can stop this menace, and no defenses can slow the advance. We are scattered and isolated. We are ignorant and weak. No help is coming. No help remains...or does it? Old heroes will sacrifice everything. New heroes will rise.

random and jarring "pause"
Revisado: 11-27-20
I dont know why, but there is a random " pause" as if it was part of the dialog while it makes no sense. I have a feeling whatever the narrator received probably didn't make the distinction between when to "pause" and what was part of the text. Just a word of caution, it is very jarring to hear the word "pause" randomly but the story is still solid.

Historia
Thousands of years ago, Earth's terraforming program took to the stars. On the world they called Nod, scientists discovered alien life - but it was their mission to overwrite it with the memory of Earth. Then humanity's great empire fell, and the program's decisions were lost to time. Aeons later, humanity and its new spider allies detected fragmentary radio signals between the stars. They dispatched an exploration vessel, hoping to find cousins from old Earth. But those ancient terraformers woke something on Nod better left undisturbed. And it's been waiting for them.

long listen
Revisado: 10-19-19
The story, the plot, the concept is fantastic! However, the major downside of this book is the story will sometimes drown in the wordiness of the book. You could shave off about 4-6 hours and still have a wonderful story with rich world building and truly dynamic characters.
