Historia
By digging into the truth of her mysterious past, Calista comes face to face with the whispers in the dark and the voice, the bond, with a man some know as the Mad King. Soon, it's clear the king no one has truly seen might have more answers to Calista's past and true purpose than anyone. He might be the only way she survives this fight. Or he could be the one who delivers her destruction.

Good ending
Revisado: 05-12-25
My least favorite book of the nine, but still enjoyable. I’ve loved this series and the themes of strong male AND female characters, devoted couples, bonds of friendship, and in the end, cherished families! I’m sad it’s ending but I look forward to exploring other LJ Andrews books!

Incredible love story paired with lots of action and magic
Revisado: 05-01-25
I have waited to write this review as I wanted to see how this series unfolded. I am now in the 9th and final book and I just can’t NOT tell people how much I’ve enjoyed this series. I’m so sad it’s ending. The first book was a bit predictable but then the story took off and as a fantasy romance, it was similar to other stories, but had a ton of uniqueness to keep you guessing and appreciating the story line. My absolute favorite part about this whole series is the devotion and love shown between a vowed couple. There are absolutely spicy scenes in this story, sometimes a bit much at the end ;), but it’s all so fun because it’s between two people that absolutely adore each other and never stray from their marriage bed. So much in our world is not this way, this is refreshing. I am a huge fan of the Jennifer Armentrout “Blood and Ash” series and this is very similar though without the swearing, which was appreciated. If you like romance, battles, magic, women’s power, and cherish devoted couples you will enjoy this tale!

Wow. About so much more than Vietnam.
Revisado: 01-20-25
Any parent of teenagers, especially boys, needs to read this book. Wow. I love Dugoni’s “Sam Hell” book and now this one joins it in probably my top 10 books of all time. This book has so many strong themes, thought provoking moments, and you absolutely fall in love with the characters. It is a MUST read! Also, like with “Sam Hell”, Dungoni narrates it to perfection. One of the only author-narrators that really excels at it and reads it like he knows it, because he fully understands what the character is supposed to be portraying. I will think about this book for years!

Historia
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

No idea what others love about this book
Revisado: 12-17-24
I tried. I tried and tried to get into this book, kept thinking I’m missing something as the reviews were so good. I’m a Neil Gaiman fan, and the reviews gave it Gaiman vibes. I was wrong. I nearly gave up so many times but thought, “it’s only 7 hours, and it could get better”, so I stuck it out. The last two hours were slightly more entertaining but with only one conflict/ action scene in 7 hours and very little character development this story was incredibly hard to get through. It seemed like it would be a great short story, under two hours, for a college writing class, not a published novel. It gives an interesting take on mental health disorders, but not in a way that kept me invested at all. The narrator was easy to listen to, but did not differentiate voices between characters so it was hard to tell who was talking. I have no desire to recommend this book to anyone. Glad I got it on sale and did not spend a whole credit on it.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Revisado: 12-12-24
This book was way out of my normal genre. I saw the reviews and it kept coming up as a suggestion so after months of putting it off I finally started it and I’m so glad I did. It felt like Tony Stark (Robert Downy, Jr) was reading to me, both in voice and how it was written! Haha! There was suspense, emotion, and surprise throughout. I never thought I would find numbers and math formulas exciting, but I did! So many thought provoking and conversation starting (my husband read and liked it too!) topics. I’ll definitely join the crowd and say I highly recommend this book!

Historia
Growing up the daughter of notorious treasure hunter and absentee father Duke Wilder left Lily without much patience for the profession…or much money in the bank. But Lily is resourceful, and now uses Duke’s coveted hand-drawn maps to guide tourists on fake treasure hunts through the red rock canyons of Utah. It pays the bills but doesn’t leave enough to fulfill her dream of buying back the beloved ranch her father sold years ago, and definitely not enough to deal with the sight of the man she once loved walking back into her life with a motley crew of friends ready to hit the trails.

City Slickers meets a romance novel. Entertaining, as in I stayed with it and wanted to listen, but very simple and predictable, and unfortunately forgettable.

As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

So good!
Revisado: 11-07-24
Still thinking about this story a week after finishing it and well into another book. Somewhat predictable, but so well written and entertaining. I love that the author shows not only the horrors that men can inflict but also the amazing people they can be too. This book is not one sided and I was thankful for that. (Trigger warning for those with a history of sexual violence.) I definitely recommend this book!

Unchained from fate, the Norse gods Loki and Hel are ready to unleash Ragnarok, a.k.a. the Apocalypse, upon the earth. They’ve made allies on the darker side of many pantheons, and there’s a globe-spanning battle brewing that ancient Druid Atticus O’Sullivan will be hardpressed to survive, much less win.

Way to preachy
Revisado: 09-09-24
I have loved this series. Both my husband and I have steadily worked our way through the books, laughing at parts and truly enjoying the entertainment. Until this book. I struggled getting through it to be honest, put off with how “preachy” it seemed and the political undertones. Then, I absolutely hated the ending. In the nearly 90 hours of listening, falling in love with these characters, I’ve developed the understanding that Hearne hates anything romance or deep relationship related. These books kept us laughing and loving the relationship between dog and human, but this series strongly lacked deep human relationships (and this doesn’t mean it needed more sex). Overall, I enjoyed this series and I have recommended it to friends. I will miss Atticus and Oberon.

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Simple and entertaining
Revisado: 06-24-24
Not necessarily a masterpiece, but this series (I’ve now listened to three of them) is very entertaining. The narrator is superb and definitely makes the story. I am impressed with Hearne’s detailed description and explanation of the fantasy world and how the magic “works”. All to often with this genre they kind of skim over it and don’t make sense of it all (understandable, but still). He also does a great job with metaphors and descriptions to the point that you can visualize exactly what’s happening. Comic relief is also great and many times found myself chuckling. I definitely recommend this series if you want a light hearted, entertaining read/listening!
