Very few people have all their facts wrong and this author is no exception. There were appreciated historical facts presented, but there was almost an intentional dismissal of the context that would have immediately dismantled many of his narratives and conclusions. It becomes quite evident that this is simply a 11 hour gripe session. He fails to fully acknowledge there was a clear need for changes to the "traditions" and "customs" that left minorities in extremely disparate situations throughout American history. I was hopeful to be presented with reasonable, conservative alternatives to address them, but I was left disappointed at the end.

In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

Mission failed

Though this book proposed to encourage a breaking away from the Democratic plantation, she ultimately tries to steer the reader to a new master.
To this end, much of the data she used to make her point was refuted by simple Google searches if her data even addressed the actual topic of discussion. It was quite disappointing to see that the author was willing to provide incomplete data to make her point.
Very few people are wrong 100% of the time, and Owens is no exception here. Unfortunately though, by the books conclusion, this feels like she is simply espousing all the talking points her supporters want to hear as opposed to some genuine plea to black people for whom she holds concern.

Frederick Douglass was born in slavery in Talbot County, Maryland. During service to masters cruel and kind, he nevertheless learned to read and write. After suffering whippings, hunger, heat, cold, and grueling labor, he escaped from slavery in 1838. In 1841 he addressed an Anti-Slavery Society convention and spoke so eloquently that they immediately employed him as an agent. He was such an impressive orator, numerous persons doubted if he had ever been a slave.

This was a well written narration by an important figure in American history. He chronicles his suspension journey, while providing insight of the time he lived. It baffles me that this is not a movie or streaming series as the script is mostly written!
