Historia
Portia Hastings has spent her life rescuing her younger sister from one scrape or another. But this time, she has to step through time to do it, following Miranda from the 19th century to the 18th. Almost immediately, Portia is beset by highwaymen, which might be the most exciting thing to happen to her in a long time, even if she’d never admit it.

Great story, complex, romantic, mystery
Revisado: 04-20-25
I have loved all the Stitch in Time books with great story lines, mysteries and love stories. Loved the narrator who was able to distinguish each character’s voice and remarkably replicate male voices. This story was no exception. Great read.

With her father’s firm representing the missing man's wife, Harper seizes the opportunity to delve back into her investigative roots. Loved this book. Brought back a few of the characters in the Rose Gardner series. Good mystery, didn’t guess who did it until the end.

Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Interesting book.
Revisado: 01-16-25
This was a bit of a slog to get through, bust still worth it if you like history and research and theory. Some might be biased, I.e. if you are religiously conservative you might feel your religious beliefs are disavowed in this book. But most of it is an interesting thought exercise.

Thorne Manor has always been haunted...and it has always haunted Bronwyn Dale. As a young girl, Bronwyn could pass through a time slip in her great-aunt's house, where she visited William Thorne, a boy her own age, born two centuries earlier. After a family tragedy, the house was shuttered and Bronwyn was convinced that William existed only in her imagination. Now, 20 years later Bronwyn inherits Thorne Manor. And when she returns, William is waiting.

Historia
Biblical womanhood - the belief that God designed women to be submissive wives, virtuous mothers, and joyful homemakers - pervades North American Christianity. From choices about careers to roles in local churches to relationship dynamics, this belief shapes the everyday lives of evangelical women. Yet biblical womanhood isn't biblical, says Baylor University historian Beth Allison Barr. It was born in a series of clearly definable historical moments.

I wish all women would read this
Revisado: 01-07-25
I never understood how certain churches include the subjugation of anyone, and even more ridiculous that this subjugation was “ based in biblical truth”. The Bible is so diverse, that pretty much anything you want to support, there is a passage or two in some versions of the book that will support it. So using certain passages to support a belief can be very dangerous and inappropriate. Instead, looking at the teachings of Christ as a whole and making a determination based on “ what would Jesus do” seems a much more accurate and appropriate way. Once we consider that the Bible is translated and updated by humans in particular cultural constructs and therefore are flawed, like all humans, makes using specific passages to make edicts even more ridiculous. Unless you work from the original language and understand the historical and cultural constructs around the writings, it is impossible to determine an accurate meaning of an individual passage. I stopped calling myself a Christian when I heard other “ Christian’s use their religion as a reason to ignore the teachings of Christ in relation to todays issues. The author lays out a great example of how us humans are forever flawed and desirous of power and money, even through our practice of our religion.

But when news of her grandmother's death reaches her, she discovers she is not like everyone else, and that question about what to do with her life may no longer be hers to answer. Wren and her mother return to Sedgwick Cove, the tiny coastal Maine town where her mother grew up, and there she learns the truth about the family she barely knows: the Vespers aren't just a family: they're a coven.

I enjoyed the prequels, each had a different sub plot, although love and marriage after initial dislike was a consistent theme. I did enjoy the diversity a settings and circumstances, which were very creative and well done.

Good intrigue near the end
Revisado: 07-13-24
It could have used some editing during the honeymoon. I did not like all the suspense until near the end. I tend to like strong female characters, which she turned out to be, but her constant self doubt and desire to please her husband ( even though she went against what he wanted) was annoying, as he was pretty heavy handed. I couldn’t identify with someone I loved treating me like that, although I’m sure it’s realistic. Just not enjoyable to read. It got really good at the end. Glad I finished it. Might have been better written in 3rd person?
