Historia
In this challenging work, Christopher Lasch makes an accessible critique of what is wrong with the values and beliefs of America's professional and managerial elites. The distinguished historian argues that democracy today is threatened not by the masses, as Jose Ortega y Gasset ( The Revolt of the Masses) had said, but by the elites. These elites - mobile and increasingly global in outlook - refuse to accept limits or ties to nation and place.

The last twenty years proves the author right
Revisado: 08-08-20
We moved from a small town outside Chicago in 2000 to northern VA. What my family has seen and experienced these last twenty years is the rise of plutocracy and oligarchs. Though a heady listening experience, I think the majority of Americans don't understand what is happening to this country. We must come to understand so we can reverse course. Not one for conspiracy theories,I know there is a Few of Them vs. the Rest of Us. We need a government strong enough to enforce the Constitutional rights of us all.

The Financalization of Healthcare ...
Revisado: 07-12-20
...has been a corrupting agent and puts our lives at risk. The authors are correct when they say patents and Nobel Prizes are the name of the new Healthcare game. Humanity be damned. I have seen the darkness in Washington DC. and am now forced to live with it's consequences having been the subject of research for an autoimmune disease without my knowledge or consent. Americans must never accept a Healthcare system that satisfies the needs of the extremely wealthy few at the expense of the the American public. Somehow we need to find a way of pushing back in a constructive way. I pray other insiders will find the courage to tell the public the truth.

Historia
The search to find medicines is as old as disease, which is to say as old as the human race. Through serendipity - by chewing, brewing, and snorting - some Neolithic souls discovered opium, alcohol, snakeroot, juniper, frankincense, and other helpful substances. Ötzi the Iceman, the 5,000-year-old hunter frozen in the Italian Alps, was found to have whipworms in his intestines and Bronze Age medicine, a worm-killing birch fungus, knotted to his leggings.

Well told explanation of issues facing pharma
Revisado: 01-19-20
We Americans have strong opinions about our healthcare system but we don't really understand it. Drug Hunters provides an exceptional first hand account of how challenging prospecting for new drugs can be. Extremely well told and so interesting I went from start to finish in one session.

Historia
Ezekiel J. Emanuel, a professor of medical ethics and health policy at the University of Pennsylvania who also served as a special adviser to the White House on health-care reform, has written a brilliant diagnostic explanation of why health care in America has become such a divisive social issue, how money and medicine have their own American story, and why reform has bedeviled presidents of the left and right for more than one hundred years.

Explanation of How American Healthcare is Evolving
Revisado: 12-25-19
Excellent explanation of how American healthcare is evolving and why. If only our elected representatives would read this book and stop waisting our time and money on ridiculous arguments about the pros and cons of a plan that does not exist: Obamacare. This country needs affordable care fast. We need a starting point for an intelligent conversation and this could be that point.
