Historia
Littleport, Maine, has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline, and a simple harbor community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors. Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl - but that’s just what happens with visitor Avery Greer and Littleport resident Sadie Loman. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable - until Sadie is found dead.

So boring, I stopped after chapter 4.
Revisado: 11-07-24
Maybe it eventually got better, but I simply couldn’t endure the narrator and found the story unable to hold my attention.

AI Narration is unbearable.
Revisado: 09-25-24
The AI narration is unbearable. I moved to Cocoa, FL when I was 6 years old, because of the influx of construction. My father was a builder. I have photos of myself under rockets at Cape Kennedy and remember the space race design on buildings all over the Cape and surrounding areas. I really wanted to listen to this book. However, the AI narration is unbearable. There is no emotion and inflection is on the wrong part of words and sentences. I won’t be listening to any books narrated by AI.

First published in 1949 and praised in the New York Times Book Review as "full of beauty and vigor and bite", A Sand County Almanac combines some of the finest nature writing since Thoreau with an outspoken and highly ethical regard for America's relationship to the land.

Brilliant, but…
Revisado: 05-26-22
Aldo Leopoldo’s observations and ideas spoke to my soul. Cassandra Campbell did a good job, but why they chose a woman to read this, I shall never understand.

Historia
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.

I wanted to like this book.
Revisado: 09-27-20
I loved Gone Girl. I listened to it continuously, from start to finish. The Sharp Objects narrator did a great job, but that was its only redeeming quality. I disliked it from the very beginning, but kept thinking it had to get better. It did not. Not one character in the book was likable. No one ever felt “real”. I like when I finish a book and the characters linger in my mind for a few days. I need to wait a day or two to start reading a new book, until they have finally drifted back into the book pages. Not so with Sharp Objects. I slammed the door and locked it shut on this book, as soon as i finished it.

Sometimes scary for a young child
Revisado: 01-23-20
As much as I appreciate Jeff Bridges as an actor, his reading of this classic was not pleasurable at all. He literally yells in a menacing voice near the end. Sorry, Jeff. This just did not work for us. My 5 year old granddaughter did not enjoy his reading and she adores audio books.
