I love the dog having a say about things. I wondered how a book could be all about pork pies, but it’s a wonderful adventure

I’ve read and reread this book many times and it still has the same effect. John Slattery’s performance was excellent.

Historia
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

It’s just heartbreaking that no one realized these poor men needed help. Military bureaucracy at its worst. Excellent book.

I felt like I was right there with the characters. The narrator was perfect with his Maine accent and different voices for the characters. I would highly recommend this book. #Friends #ComingofAge #Orphans #Inspiring #Provocative #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

I need more!
Revisado: 08-22-18
I love to watch crime investigation shows (or as my husband calls them "little did she know" shows). I've been interested in forensics for a very long time. This book left me wanting more. I know it's a good book when I notice the time coming to an end and I'm not ready for it to end.

Historia
More than 40 years after it ended, the Vietnam War continues to haunt our country. We still argue over why we were there, whether we could have won, and who was right and wrong in their response to the conflict. When the war divided the country, it created deep political fault lines that continue to divide us today. Now, continuing in the tradition of their critically acclaimed collaborations, the authors draw on dozens and dozens of interviews in America and Vietnam to give us the perspectives of people involved at all levels of the war.

In Depth Explanation
Revisado: 02-23-18
I was in high school between the time Vietnam was current events and when it was “history”. I knew it was an unpopular war but didn’t have much knowledge about it. Now I understand why it was so horrible, why it never should have happened and why people feel the way they do about it.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

To take a skeptical approach to American history is not to dabble in imaginative conspiracy theories; rather, it's to reframe your understanding of this great nation's past and actually strengthen your appreciation for what makes American history such a fascinating chapter in the larger story of Western civilization. And in this bold 24-lecture series, you can do just that.
