One dimensional Narrator and Mediocre writing

Any audiobook with a large cast of characters and mediocre writing can often be saved by a narrator who can breath life into the characters. Zeller is not cut out for this type of reading and therefore the characters she attempts are too jarring tonally or one-dimensional. As for the author, Babel was interesting but this is really poorly written and underdeveloped, the plot plods slower than geriatric sloth swimming in honey.

Annie Jacobsen’s work is always very interesting however....

It seems a shame that Jacobsen, who writes and investigates such interesting material, doesn’t opt to have someone else narrate her work. Awkward pronunciations and often disjointed phrasing become distracting.

A precedent at once fascinating and repugnant.

Considering the enormity of damage caused by the Nazi's from their rise to power during the twenties to the unparalleled levels of cruelty and destruction in the execution of their aggressive war, it might almost seem ludicrous to put trial the perpetrators and leaders rather than execute them on the spot.This history of The International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, while at times difficult to listen to, illuminates the time and place, the major trial procedures, witnesses, documents and paints a balanced portrait of the proceedings ultimately making a strong case for a legal structure and precedent for international oversight with regards to criminal acts of war.

Beevor's account of Montgomery, as arrogant commander whose inability to relinquish control to Allied Command, bookends the sad tale of The Battle of Arnhem. Well sourced journals flesh out a balanced view of the battle from the point of both the belligerents and civilians.

Well researched and Illuminating

This well researched, illuminating account of Oppenheimer's life, goes to great lengths to describe his murky relationship to the Communist Party and it's various members. While at the same time filling out the more personal aspects of the famed Manhattan Project leader's life.
