Historia
Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard; the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters.

The vivid description of the scenes.
Revisado: 10-28-24
The beginning and the end was excellent. The middle of the book was just toooooo long and no ups and downs. There were maybe 4 times that I was compelled to return it. I liked the end therefore, was it worth my time? 1/4 of the beginning was good, 3/4 in the middle, I was just dragging myself to listen to it, the last 1/4 was great.
Would I recommend this book? Not really. I have read much better books by this author.

Started good…..too long
Revisado: 03-06-24
I made a big effort to finish this book. It starts good but then it was just going around and around. I almost returned it twice and then it was too late to return it. I would not recommend this book, it was a waste of my time.

Cute book- not my for me
Revisado: 06-19-23
I bought this book after reading the great reviews. It is a cute book for elementary - middle school ages. Too simple “pure” for me. I almost stopped listening towards the middle, but as I wanted to know what happened at the end. Would not recommend it to people like me, I like them graphic, bloody, sexual - historical novels.

Historia
Mendel (Manny) Steinberg spent his teens in Nazi extermination camps in Germany and Poland, miraculously surviving while millions perished. This is his story. Born in 1925 in the Jewish ghetto in Radom, Poland, Manny soon realized that people of Jewish faith were increasingly being regarded as outsiders. In September 1939 the Nazis invaded, and the nightmare started. The city's Jewish population had no chance of escaping and was faced with starvation, torture, sexual abuse and ultimately deportation.

Wow!! I am still thinking of how these family survived
Revisado: 06-10-23
I have read hundreds of books about the holocaust and this read/listen is worth the credit. The book is descriptive but not too graphic (I do like them graphic though 😳). It’s easy to listen - not too long, not to short. I wanted to get back to it to find out what happened next.
I highly recommend it !!

Revisado: 06-01-23

For weeks, the body count of sexually violated, brutally murdered young women escalated. With increasing alarm, Los Angeles newspapers headlined the deeds of a serial killer they named the Hillside Strangler. The city was held hostage by fear. Darcy O'Brien weds the narrative skill of an award-winning novelist with the detailed observations of an experienced investigator to unravel this chilling true-crime story.

The most graphic book I have ever read. Excellent!
Revisado: 05-12-23
The books is very graphic, and unfortunately I loved every page of it. It describes how they did it, where, what the victims felt, how they begged for their lives etc. Three fourths of the book is about the killings and the last fourth of what happens while they were being incarcerated and what happened in court. To the serial killers junkies, I highly recommend this book.

Fair read/listen, was too long and it just keeps going on and on. Sad though that these family had to endure so much pain and torture. I would not recommend it to readers that like more scenarios and stories within a book.

Historia
After his December 2003 arrest, registered nurse Charlie Cullen was quickly dubbed "The Angel of Death" by the media. But Cullen was no mercy killer, nor was he a simple monster. He was a favorite son, husband, beloved father, best friend, and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history.

Excellent book-a must read/listen
Revisado: 04-07-22
I have read and listened to many many books about the Holocaust and this book surpassed them all (another excellent book is “The escape from Sobibor). You will not want to put it down!! The timing of the events are true. The narrator is superb, he makes different voices and they all match the gender. You can live the moment throughout the whole book!! I am going to look for more books narrated by Christopher Lane. I highly highly recommend this book.
