Twisted just enough so that each time, and there will be many, when you think you know the answers you will find yourself mistaken. Enjoy.

Nice exploration of complexity of love
Revisado: 11-18-24
Love is complex .. Commitment is complex .. Friendship is complex. Judging others is a fools errand .. we are all sinners. 💕🙏🏼
Love the way the author has characters with depth and history that makes them relatable on multiple levels. She has been able to do this in each of her books I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying so far.
This holiday season find some time to escape to Nantucket and see the human condition through the good folks trying to raise money for a wonderful charity. 💕

It’s complicated
Revisado: 11-07-24
Overall the story was thought provoking. What a great premise. A makes you think book. Challenges your assumptions and preconceived ideas. With that said just so so so many characters to track and care about that it became overwhelming. Throughout much of the book I kept hearing my inner voice say this all would be so much better as a film or even a play. Much of the writing had the feel of stage direction rather than storytelling. Maybe it was the writing style that did not work for me , perhaps. The story was engaging enough that I do believe I’ll give another of this author’s works a go before I determine if we are maybe just not a good fit. Overall do recommend this one just may need a notepad to keep track of who is who and why it matters. 😊

Historia
Overthinking isn't a personality trait. It's the sneakiest form of fear. It steals time, creativity, and goals. It's the most expensive, least productive thing companies invest in without even knowing it. And it's an epidemic. When New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff changed his life by transforming his overthinking, he wondered if other people might benefit from what he discovered. He commissioned a research study to ask 10,000 people if they struggle with overthinking too, and 99.5 percent said, "Yes!"

Great reminders
Revisado: 08-11-24
John is a great storyteller. Conveying deep messages within stories filled with heart and humor. I’m so glad he did the audible version as it truly allowed his authentic voice to shine through. The sarcasm- the surprise -the moments of wonder and discovery were brought to life. There were moments you felt like he was talking directly to you and could see you roll your eyes at his ridiculous 🤣 suggestions. Just as quickly you could feel his genuine assurance that it would work.. just try. If you are not surrounded by voices that propel you forward or you are hearing the volume of your self talk amplified lately this book is just what you want to carve out some time to embrace. Highly recommend the audio version.

Historia
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Chapter 44
Revisado: 01-22-24
What a wonderful twisted tale of loyalty. Be it a sibling, a parent, a child, a marriage, a friendship, or an infatuation.. loyalty and secrets, truths and deceits all play a role in the lives of the characters in this twisted tale. My review is titled Chapter 44 as that is about when all my theories as to who done it started to fall apart. That is also about the point I started to formulate a few new ideas on who was who and who wasn’t who they appeared to be.
Enjoyed this one. Picked it up on a whim as the title and subtitles sounded like a wild scenario.. and it was wild and so much more.
Quick weekend read .. enjoy it! Do note however.. once you get far enough in you won’t want to stop until you get closure (the very very very end ). 😉😍

The mysteries they solved may have been grisly, and brilliantly staged, but they were always fictional—until their final Christmas Masquerade, when one of the group disappeared, never to be seen again. Now our privileged young cast of old university friends are summoned to the depths of Scotland for a Christmas-themed masquerade party. But all are hiding something deep below the surface that could make or break their careers.

Nicely Twisted
Revisado: 01-12-24
A Christmas Who Dun it Party.. oh what fun..until actual dead bodies start appearing.
Everyone has an angle. Everyone is a suspect. Everyone could be the killer… but it’s not everyone is it.
The author does a great job of so immersing you in all the minor side stories and background info that you miss (or at least I did) the killer being right there in front of your nose all the time.
Go ahead .. cold weather and all- grab a hot drink and settle back and prepare to be swept away- immersed in a bunch of rich people silly drama as bodies start appearing - dead.
A classic Who Dun It that is nicely twisted.

Incredible story performed with amazing intensity… great audible experience
Revisado: 12-28-23
The way the voice actors portrayed the main characters- especially Lydia the DR … it was so integral to capturing the essence of the story.
Great all around story that did not disappoint. Twists and turns that keep you guessing throughout.
Pick this one and just set aside time to binge read/listen. You will not want to put it down.

As expected . Excellent.
Revisado: 09-26-23
Excellent story and pretty solid performance for audible. Just carve out time to get through this one when you have enough time to go start to finish… it is NOT one you will want to pause .. or put down for too long. The twists and turns are so frequent you find yourself speaking out loud to the book.. saying no no no… seriously? You’ve got to be kidding. But keep on reading/listening because just when you’ve figured it all out you will discover you are very wrong.
Great characters. Some you will love and some you won’t but they all play a role that propels the story forward and keeps you engaged. The ends are tied up.. the pieces all fit and like “The Wife Between Us” you just can’t put this book down.. until finished. (And even then you may go back and say Wait, how did I miss that!?)
Enjoy.

Historia
In 1963, a female student was attending a lecture given by Nobel Prize winner James Watson, then tenured at Harvard. At nineteen, she was struggling to define her future. She had given herself just ten years to fulfill her professional ambitions before starting the family she was expected to have. For women at that time, a future on the usual path of academic science was unimaginable—but during that lecture, young Nancy Hopkins fell in love with the promise of genetics. Confidently believing science to be a pure meritocracy, she embarked on a career.

Must read Absolute Must Read
Revisado: 05-09-23
This is a great book of historical significance in understanding how recent the struggle for equal treatment of women has been. Listens on audible and the performance was engaging and kept you fully vested in the events even when the material might otherwise be dry and uninteresting to the non scientific minded (I.e. - ME!) . There is so much to take in and to understand about the treatment of women in first this microcosm of science - then the prestigious university- then society as a whole. Being a women in my mid 50’s and placing these events into the context of my own life and interactions the book became even more powerful. Everything Nancy and the 16 describe and endure has happened, in varying degrees, to me and potentially many women along our journey through life and business. The thought process of trying to determine when to speak up and when not to for fear of seeming difficult or too aggressive.. powerful and oh so true. What was probably most impactful to me, personally, as a graduate of a Women’s College (Mount Holyoke) where we were encouraged to be bold, be heard, have opinions and ideas, and to persevere through push back and challenges , what struck me was that I had believed the generation of women before me had fought the fight and created the change and here we were benefiting from all that fight, yet.. this book clearly shows the fight, the change, the challenges were ongoing when I was in college and beginning my career. In fact they continue today. How is that possible?
Absolute must read for any women who wish to put historical context to their own lives and challenges, regardless of the business in which they work. Also a must read for anyone interested in understanding the subtleties and biases that can creep into actions, interactions, hiring, promotions, opportunities, representation and how to change this trend and move the dial on the situation in their lives.
Absolute Must Read
