So glad Chelsea narrated, what a fun summer escape to the chateau, and I loved the financial elements woven into the story!

Historia
Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything.

Real Estate Investing vs. living in a home
Revisado: 12-23-20
One unexpected lesson was what it really means to buy a home and the real cost of real estate investing. Anxious People is now one of my favorite listens of 2020 and now I'm going back to listen to all of Backman's novels. He is such a talented writer. He can drop a sentence casually into a story that can sum up years of knowledge. I highly recommend this to anyone considering buying a home and to heal any 2020 anxiety!

Interview without questions
Revisado: 11-19-20
This is great for Dolly fans, but unlike a usual memoir it felt more like an interview with a male voice guiding the conversation without asking direct questions. It could also pass for a podcast with super short episodes aka 180 chapters of about two minutes each that could make a great daily Dollyism listening for super fans to hear a bit of her song and the story behind a song before starting a day. Best part was definitely hearing her sing bits of the songs and then explain the meaning and stories behind the lyrics.

The daughter of immigrants and civil rights activists, Vice President Kamala Harris was raised in an Oakland, California, community that cared deeply about social justice. As she rose to prominence as one of the political leaders of our time, her experiences would become her guiding light as she grappled with an array of complex issues and learned to bring a voice to the voiceless. In The Truths We Hold, she reckons with the big challenges we face together.

Not a usual memior but...
Revisado: 11-17-20
Much more about the issues that matter most to her. This is not your usual memoir with beginning, middle, and end. Instead it primarily focuses on her views with some personal stories sprinkled throughout. I loved listening to this with her narration and learned a lot about her and what she'll likely focus on!

slow BUT
Revisado: 10-30-20
It's worth it in the end. At first I didn't like this slow read with Kathy constantly going back oh I should tell you this story to understand that story, but in the end there are some worthwhile lessons and a perspective that make this story special and make it all worthwhile. I also highly recommend watching the movie after listening to this!

When it comes to the “hard seasons” of life—the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job—transformation seems impossible when grief and uncertainty dominate your days. Especially when, as Didn’t See that Coming reveals, no one asks to have their future completely rearranged for them. But, as Rachel Hollis writes, it is up to you how you come through your pain—you can come through changed for the better, having learned and grown, or stuck in place where your identity becomes rooted in what hurt you.

Long Ted style talk
Revisado: 09-30-20
I am NOT a regular Rachel Hollis fan, so I was worried there'd be too much that I wouldn't "get" since I haven't read her other books, but it didn't matter. If you're going through any grief from loss of a job or friend or a divorce this is the long Ted style talk you didn't know you needed. I loved how current this is repeatedly mentioning quarantine and her divorce that are happening right now. Just like that poopy avocado color paint you want to quickly cover up in a house renovation, this will teach you how to properly sand down the cabinets so a new coat of paint will stick. She explained things simply and says herself though being a motivational speaker is a part of what she does, "I don't want to motivate you" since motivation is fleeting and situational, she wants to instead give hard truths and help you get things together and have good habits even in the bad times.

Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Present to past
Revisado: 09-28-20
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this mystery unfold back and forth from the present to the past as told from the many beautiful perspectives and accents. It was fun figuring out how many people had motives and the unexpected twists and turns that kept me guessing and entertained till the very end. Hannah was my favorite character and deserves her own sequel. I think many mysteries' endings can be under-developed or too out of left field, but this one was so unexpected but still very well written that the story had great closure!

Wow, what a great listen and unique way to explain gentrification through this thriller style story. This should be required reading for real estate agents, real estate "investors" and anyone moving into Brooklyn or any other up-and-coming area.

Inspirational tidbits
Revisado: 09-24-20
Lovely short listen that can be so inspirational especially depending on when you listen or relisten to it. It made me rethink eating, exercise, work and the meaning of retirement. “Can someone really retire if he is passionate about what he does?” It's about staying active in both mind and body. It is a light read but I think that's a good thing!
