Historia
In Artificial Intelligence, Mitchell turns to the most urgent questions concerning AI today: How intelligent - really - are the best AI programs? How do they work? What can they actually do, and when do they fail? How humanlike do we expect them to become, and how soon do we need to worry about them surpassing us? Along the way, she introduces the dominant methods of modern AI and machine learning, describing cutting-edge AI programs, their human inventors, and the historical lines of thought that led to recent achievements.

Strong overview of the conceptual state of AI
Revisado: 06-11-22
This is a quick introduction into how modern AI systems work, along with some extended discussion around the philosophy of said systems. I was working on something that is incorporating AI and it's exactly what I needed for me to wrap my head around how the systems work and what their strengths and limitations are.
An added benefit is that I can confidently say to my wife that we are in no danger of artificial intelligence having human level thoughts and feelings at any time in the near future.

very weird, very republican
Revisado: 02-28-22
This is a book that Tucker Carlson might find hilarious. The idea of an intergalactic insurance agent is sort of funny, mostly comes across as a screed against anyone to the left of Glenn Beck. Totally took all the fun out of it for me.

Gorgeous book. If you're looking for Japanese magical realism that isn't Murikami, say hello to Banana Yoshimoto. I liked it better than Kitchen.

Historia
Tokyo resident Keiko Furukara has never fit in - neither in her family, nor in school - but when at the age of 18 she begins working at the Hiiromachi branch of national convenience store chain Smile Mart, she realizes instantly that she has found her purpose in life. Delighted to be able to exist in a place where the rules of social interaction are crystal clear (many are laid out line-by-line in the store's manual), Keiko does her best to copy the dress, mannerisms, and mode of speech of her colleagues, playing the part of a "normal" person excellently, more or less.

touching portrait of someone
Revisado: 08-22-20
I'm only writing this review because some of the other reviews were unfair to this book.
It's a moving portrait of someone who any of us might come in contact with any day. It reminded me a lot of the other Japanese novels that I've read. There's a lot of atmosphere and character and while it takes a while for the narrative to pick up, by the end of the book the message was loud and clear.
You can make up your own mind if the character is neuro-atypical. Regardless, I think the point of this book is powerful. It's very worth three hours.

Here’s the cold, hard truth: Ideas are cheap. Product follow-through is where the money is spent and made. That’s where heroes are forged, and excellent product design sparks what eventually becomes major growth. Today, products need to grow their user bases...from scratch, again and again. This book is a guide to the vital work of shaping a product into its sustaining engine. It’s a design-focused companion to methodologies like product-led growth.

Where Product and UX in intercect
Revisado: 01-04-20
This is a great little book with a lot of ideas of how to use UX and product management strategies specifically for growth. While not strictly a book about UX, it does speak to where the two disciplines come together, and I think we'll be useful for anyone working on a software team.
I love that it's short and succinct and full of actionable insights. Totally worth the money and time.

Beautiful book.
Revisado: 05-30-19
The art of possibilities a beautiful book written by a husband and wife duo. I was skeptical at first that it would be new agey and trite. It's neither of these things. This book is about deciding to see things in a positive way, and gives powerful examples about how to use internal framing to set yourself up for more possibility in your life.

Not at this paper. The problem is compounded when the dead man vanishes, Buick and all.

80s Tabloid Romp
Revisado: 11-03-17
Hilarious romp! A forgotten gem. Underrated. Wish there was a sequel. It's also really interesting what was considered really dangerous journalistic behavior in the 80s. By today's standards it seems tame.
