Historia
Inheriting your uncle's supervillain business is more complicated than you might think. Particularly when you discover who's running the place. Charlie's life is going nowhere fast. A divorced substitute teacher living with his cat in a house his siblings want to sell, all he wants is to open a pub downtown, if only the bank will approve his loan. Then his long-lost uncle Jake dies and leaves his supervillain business (complete with island volcano lair) to Charlie. But becoming a supervillain isn't all giant laser death rays and lava pits.

An easy, fun, and funny read with somewhat disappointing ending.
Revisado: 01-10-25
I don't want to discuss spoilers too much, but I feel like the ending was way too neat. I suppose I can accept that the characters in this story are high powered business people who lack empathy and are used to using people like pawns, but the Main Character should definitely have been much more upset than he was about how he was used, emotionally manipulated, and left in the cold. The cat was quite literally the only saving grace.

the best of what Litrpg has to offer
Revisado: 12-14-23
This is what I think about when I think about what an isekai litrpg should look like. While this type of story is not my favorite, I can very much appreciate how well executed this is by the author. Alexander Wales understands the essence of what makes tabletop role-playing games entertaining, and he skillfully entwines all of those elements in the pages of this book.

This is a tale that used to be about dungeons... Now it's mostly about walking in the woods with a friend, looking for mushrooms to put in your soup. Maybe haggling with the squash seller, or taking care of a neglected garden, or even just putting some jam on a good shortbread biscuit. And yes, sometimes you still go down into the dungeons with your friends, and kill monsters there, disarm traps, avoid spiked pits etcetera, etcetera. But when you come out now, it's not really about the gold and loot.

listen to if you enjoy the Wandering Inn
Revisado: 11-24-23
This is my favorite type of dungeon fantasy because its an actual story and not just the dull dnd character log otherwise known as "Litrpg". The characters all feel like authentic individuals grounded in their reality. The author does a fantastic job of differentiating their personalities and playing with the interactions between them as it relates to forming a dungeon party. At its heart, it's a found family story about a band of misfits coming together to form a dungeoneering party and finding themselves and each other in the process. But the world itself also feels unique, vast, and well-thought-out.
I'm still pretty early in the story, so the comparison to the Behemoth that is The Wandering Inn is probably unmerited, but reading this story does have them same feel as reading the Wandering inn, if maybe on a much smaller scale (for now). it's a very peaceful and easy read so far, unlike the Rollercoaster of emotions that is The Wandering Inn.
The Narrator also does a very good job with the accents, though occasionally, I think they get confused as to who is talking and use the wrong character voice. Overall, I highly recommend this. it's easy listening , and this series deserves more attention on this platform.

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

It’s still winter, but everyone’s on the move. Rags the goblin is heading north, seeking allies against the Goblin Lord. And Erin is going home...or trying to, at least. She’s determined to bring back cheer to The Wandering Inn - as well as Christmas! But the coldest time of the year leads to strange encounters with a number of people. At the same time, Ryoka Griffin is far from what she would consider to be “home”. Deep in the north, in the city of Invrisil, she finds herself as the guest of Magnolia Reinhart.

A Must Listen for Fantasy Fans
Revisado: 07-29-21
Excellent writing. Excellent narration. Excellent storytelling. Excellent world building. Excellent character development.
The only negative thing you can say about pirateaba's world of stories are that they are almost too vast for their own good. Things can sometimes seem unfocused, and it can take hundreds of pages before you return to the "main characters" stories. I think The Wandering Inn would benefit from having certain books be divided into side novels or novellas (particularly the Wistram Days chapters), but it's really hard to complain because the quality of writing never dips. I enjoy every moment of Rags' story as well as every moment of Erin and Ryoka's.

meandering at times, but worth it
Revisado: 11-12-20
Contrary to many opinions, I actually really enjoy the direction the story has gone in. Though, I do believe the flashbacks could have been integrated in a better way, like in a standalone novella. That being said, the things this story does right far outweighs the things it does wrong. I love that the author isn't afraid to give his protagonist real flaws and internal conflict. Those things along with the impressive world building really separate this series from the standard "reincarnation fantasy Litrpg" fare.

The best free audible original.
Revisado: 09-26-19
The best thing about the book is the production. The performance, music, sound editing all join together to make this what it is. This is one of the very few times where the added production actually adds real value to the experience and makes the story much more than it would have been if just read like a normal book.
The story itself is a YA magic school story about believing in yourself. it has a lot of tropes, but it's well-written and unique enough to feel fresh and keep your attention.
I would very highly reccomend this, especially considering the fact that you get get it for free with an audible subscription.

Great story and Great performance
Revisado: 12-13-18
Brandon Sanderson is in his prime right now. This is the perfect little sci fi diversion from his more hardcore fantasy books. Keep in mind though, that is isnt part of the Cosmere universe. It may not be the most original story, but Sanderson is so talented at executing realistic world building and dialogue that it doesnt really matter. just enjoy the fun ride.
It's a great standalone story and doesnt create too much of a cliffhanger at the end, but I would love another addition.

Historia
In the world of Warbreaker, each person is born endowed with the power of one Breath―which can be sold and collected by others, then used to Awaken objects and even corpses to do their bidding. A few individuals who die in glory return as gods, with the power of thousands of Breath, but no memory of their mortal lives―and are enthroned in the Court of Gods in Hallandren’s capital. To Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris, the abuse of Breath and the claim of the Returned to be gods are repugnant blasphemy.

if you loved the stormlight books, you'll love this.
it has a lot of the same themes, and provides really great background information on nightblood and Azure/Vivenna.
Also, Lightsong is very possibly my new favorite character of all Sanderson's books.
