Sharp, fast-paced, muddy sound
Revisado: 10-03-23
This is the radio series made from the color series, a 1970s sequel to a 1960s show.
The sound is not as crisp in British recordings as it is in American recordings.

Historia
The history of warfare cannot be fully understood without considering the technology of killing. In Firepower, acclaimed historian Paul Lockhart tells the story of the evolution of weaponry and how it transformed not only the conduct of warfare, but also the very structure of power in the West, from the Renaissance to the dawn of the atomic era.

technical and specialized
Revisado: 07-28-23
The narrator was wonderful with technical terms from other languages but significantly challenged by reasonable English words such as antecedent and Reformation. It was distracting.
I enjoyed the theme but zoned out during the evolution of the rifle. I learned about training. Tank operation improved when soldiers had played with toy tanks as children.

Historia
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Meet Tommy Martini, the monk with an anger management problem. His meditations are interrupted by a legacy from his uncle, a crooked priest. Arriving in a New Age Arizona town to claim his inheritance, Brother Tommy meets a charismatic, smoking-hot cult leader who claims that women are being impregnated by alien beings while they sleep. This book is not what I expected. It has the logic of--well, maybe of the Encino Man movie.
When the Felonious Monk bench pressed the bedside table in his motel room the world of this novel shifted and settled. When the Monk did another set without handholds...well, it has my nomination for the funniest scene in the book.

Historia
As raiders and explorers, the Vikings played a decisive role in the formation of Latin Christendom, and particularly of western Europe. Now, in a series of 36 vivid lectures by an honored teacher and classical scholar, you have the opportunity to understand this remarkable race as never before, studying the Vikings not only as warriors, but in all of the other roles in which they were equally extraordinary - merchants, artists, kings, raiders, seafarers, shipbuilders, and creators of a remarkable literature of myths and sagas.

Cogent and modern
Revisado: 09-11-18
This course uses new archaeological discoveries and DNA analysis to choose reliable primary sources. Professor Harl is makes clear his theme: how the Vikings affected the western world and contributed to the present. I first appreciated the contribution Norse in history of English presentations. The explanations of ship building, light weight and portage, shallow draught and reach clarified the European responses to raiding. I am glad to have this course to listen to again.

Over 5,000 years, India has been home to a rich tapestry of peoples and cultures. Two of the world's great religions - Hinduism and Buddhism - have their origins in South Asia, and the lands east of the Indus River have long been a central hub for trade, migration, and cultural exchange. Today the subcontinent contains 20 percent of the world's population and is a thriving center for global business, making this region one of most significant economic powerhouses in the world.

More like a book than a college course
Revisado: 09-28-16
The content is great, thorough, and balanced. If it were a book, a professional reader would have done a bit better job. If I had purchased a book, I would be very happy with it.

Acceptable plot, inadequate characters
Revisado: 02-07-15
Most memorable moment: former FBI agent who has been fired on twice is taken unaware for the third time in a row. He is too distracted by his thoughts to notice being tailed after telling us it is hard to tail a car in a small town. Reading is competent but uninspired.

Bound by blood but divided by troubles as old as Cain and Abel, Moses Reed and Aaron Fox were first introduced in Kellerman’s bestselling Bones. They are sons of the same strong-willed mother, and their respective fathers were cops, partners, and friends. Their turbulent family history has set them at odds, despite their shared calling. Moses—part Boy Scout, part bulldog, man of few words—is a no-frills LAPD detective.

Intriguing new characters, even better in audio
Revisado: 09-29-09
One benefit of the audio version is hearing the brothers use different voices with each other than they use out in the world. Introducing a private detective solves the problem of having a wealthy retired psychiatrist sitting long stakeouts for no compelling reason. Kellerman's distaste for Christians still obtains, but once again he manages to tolerate faith in powerless women.
