Historia
1946: World War II has ended and all over the world, young women are beginning to fulfill the promises made to the men they wed in wartime. In Sydney, Australia, four women join 650 other war brides on an extraordinary voyage to England—aboard HMS Victoria, which still carries not just arms and aircraft but a thousand naval officers. Rules are strictly enforced, from the aircraft carrier’s captain down to the lowliest young deckhand. But the men and the brides will find their lives intertwined despite the Navy’s ironclad sanctions.

Disappointed
Revisado: 04-20-25
I found the story tedious in detail from the beginning. It never developed in to an interesting story. It was confusing to follow between characters and time frames. When a smuggled dog story line was introduced, I elected to discontinue listening. I normally love historical fiction, but there must be enough interesting content to balance stressful content. The narrator was excellent.

Nice story, unfair price
Revisado: 08-04-24
I enjoyed this book as I have the others, but find a credit to be overpriced for 1 short story. I'll be looking for another series.

Well written
Revisado: 07-21-24
I've never been a fan of short stories, but these have been an exception. Since it's a series, we already know the characters so the substance of the mystery begins quickly and I like that. The narrator is quite good although there is some difficulty with female voices.

My last one
Revisado: 06-21-24
The many characters that weren't interesting, along with the shrillness of the the narration. As has been said, changing narrators is a huge negative, but this one paired with the particular characters didn't hold my interest. Looking for another series.

Light story with likable characters
Revisado: 05-19-24
Compared to the original narrator, the current one is a disappointment. The original narrator would be a hard act to follow for anyone she was so good. I like the series enough to stick with it, but the change is a constant distraction.

Well written but sad

I found the book very sad and painfully drawn out in the expressions of painful grief. I thought the book could have been condensed by a couple of hours.

Held my interest
Revisado: 01-29-24
I enjoyed this book from the start. It was a nice balance of mystery with romance. Overall good narration, but at times had difficulty distinguishing between male and female voices. I will definitely look forward to future books with this author.

Very slow moving
Revisado: 10-17-23
Although I've listened to many British narrators, I had a lot of trouble with this one. Between the strain I had following the narrator, keeping track of the many characters, and the story just not capturing my interest, this one was very slow going. I stuck with it as it was included in my membership. I did adjust to the narration, and in the last few hours the story became interesting as it came to conclusion.
