Historia
In Faith Formation in a Secular Age, the first book in his Ministry in a Secular Age trilogy, Andrew Root offered an alternative take on the issue of youth drifting away from the church and articulated how faith can be formed in our secular age. In The Pastor in a Secular Age, Root explores how this secular age has impacted the identity and practice of the pastor, obscuring his or her core vocation: to call and assist others into the experience of ministry.

The last chapter was worth the entire book
Revisado: 06-12-23
The last chapter was worth the entire book. While the back half can get bogged down in the weeds he leads you out of it well. This should be required reading.

Historia
Dana Potowski is a restaurant critic and food writer and a longtime member of a progressive Unitarian Universalist congregation in Southern California. Just as she’s finishing the book tour for her latest bestseller, Dana is asked to join the church search committee for a new minister. Under pressure to find her next book idea, she agrees, and resolves to secretly pen a memoir, with recipes, about the experience. That memoir, Search, follows the travails of the committee and their candidates—and becomes its own media sensation.

A must read for every minister.
Revisado: 04-15-23
I am not UU but the truth of this book jumps off the page regardless of tradition. I have handed to numerous friends who are also ministers. The depth of each character is masterful and this book is a treasure.

Historia
On Palm Sunday 1964, at the Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis, a group of black and white students began a "kneel-in" to protest the church's policy of segregation, a protest that would continue in one form or another for more than a year and eventually force the church to open its doors to black worshippers. In The Last Segregated Hour, Stephen Haynes tells the story of this dramatic yet little studied tactic which was the strategy of choice for bringing attention to segregationist policies in Southern churches.

Required Reading!!
Revisado: 06-20-22
This should be required reading for every college graduate at Rhodes and University of Memphis. Such an amazing book about a pivotal time in the history of our city. And yet I am yet to find anyone who talks about it. Thank you so much for bringing this to the light.
