Historia
The 1968 US presidential election was the young Lawrence O'Donnell's political awakening, and in the decades since it has remained one of his abiding fascinations. For years he has deployed one of America's shrewdest political minds to understanding its dynamics, not just because it is fascinating in itself but because in it is contained the essence of what makes America different and how we got to where we are now.

Not enough superlatives for this magnificent book on events and personalities leading up to the 1968 American election and consequences.

Dennis Mira just had two unpleasant surprises. First he learned that his cousin Edward was secretly meeting with a real estate agent about their late grandfather's magnificent West Village brownstone, despite the promise they both made to keep it in the family. Then, when he went to the house to confront Edward about it, he got a blunt object to the back of the head.

Excellent but tough subject
Revisado: 02-03-16
Excellent character development in this latest In Death with intriguing new characters joining Eve's work family.
The crimes, however, are exceptionally horrific. Rape figures prominently in the storyline and graphic descriptions of the crimes were difficult to listen to.

Historia
When Robin Ellacott opens an unexpected delivery, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but just as alarmed. He suspects that four people from his past could be responsible - and any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike has essentially ruled out, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men.

The best one yet
Revisado: 10-21-15
Although more violent than the first two in the series, the development of the characters is superb. We learn a lot more about Robin's background in this book.
The mystery was wonderfully done and I didn't figure it out although it is fair play. Many will enjoy the references to Blue Oyster Cult rock lyrics.
The narration of the audible book was fantastic.
I couldn't imagine reading this book without having read the first two in the series and would recommend the books be read in order.

Hardly a day goes by when nine-year-old Laurent Lepage doesn't cry wolf. From alien invasions to walking trees to winged beasts in the woods to dinosaurs spotted in the village of Three Pines, his tales are so extraordinary no one can possibly believe him. Including Armand and Reine-Marie Gamache, who now live in the little Quebec village.

Three Pines thriller
Revisado: 08-26-15
Listened to Audible book narrated by Robert Bathurst. Bathurst does a good job but his performance of Ruth sadly doesn't come close to Ralph Cosham's.
This novel is set in Three Pines but is not a straight murder mystery. Once again Gamache must save the world singlehandedly - a bit far fetched and tends to put this book more in the action thriller category.
Still it was an enjoyable listen but I am not sure I'll revisit this book anytime soon.

Love the humor!
Revisado: 06-27-15
"You know you're having a bad week when the 911 operator recognizes your voice"
Wendy Darlin once again deals with bodies dropping around her and bad guys committing out there crimes - in this case a mummy in Florida. I absolutely love Barbara Silkstone's humor in naming her characters, giving them quirks, and in the dialogue she provides them.
Wendy is a great character who triumphs over shenanigans around her despite her intense fear of holes (mostly those in fabric, not in the ground.) Roger Jolly, her love interest, provides a great foil and comes across as a charming guy.
Recommended for those with a slightly warped, snarky sense of humor. Have a good time!

It begins when the strangely marked body of a young prostitute is found just outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. A similarly disfigured corpse of an American nun turns up. Then an Arab boy. As the list of victims grows, their only apparent connection is the bizarre markings on their bodies, it appears that Israel is facing its first serial murder case.

Patterns everywhere
Revisado: 05-21-15
Pattern Crimes is an interesting mix of an Israeli detectives hunt for a serial killer while delving into mysteries surrounding his own family. The Jerusalem of the book, even with its unique religious background, comes across to this reader as a big city with big city problems for cops. It is a very well-written police procedural offerring glimpses into Israeli life
I read on kindle voyage while listening to the audible book for several hours and I am glad I did as some of the Israeli names would have tripped me up had I not seen them in print. The kindle book is poorer for not having a table of contents and not having x-ray enabled. X-ray, in particular, would have been very helpful to check on past actions of a character.
The narrator, Dick Hall, did an outstanding job with the characters and the accents involved.
I bought the kindle book and received the audible book in exchange for an honest review through Audio Book Blast.

Historia
In modern day Chicago, deja vu draws together a handsome mounted policeman and the beautiful young woman who saves his life. This tender love story pulls the reader back to previous lives and a time richly elegant. Yesterday is also a harrowing tale of escape through the American Civil War and the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. A life of tragedy is Amanda's destiny, or so she believes. But, in this historical romance, Mark fights through Amanda's rejection to prove that she will love again as she once loved - Yesterday.

Past Life Romance

Past Life Romance
Yesterday: A Novel of Reincarnation focuses on Amanda and Mark and their search to learn about their past lives in order to understand how it is affecting their present.
The novel is well-written but the main character, Amanda, comes off as flighty in parts of the novel. Mark is a bit too well versed in Gaelic and Irish lore for a current day Chicago native. It comes off as contrived after a while. If the goal was imbuing the story with authentic Irish characters and atmosphere, promoting the myth about corned beef and cabbage being an Irish dish rather than an Irish American dish could have been left out.
Despite these relatively minor irritations, the story was enjoyable overall. I bought the kindle book and was given the audible version by the author in exchange for a review. The narrator, Darlene Allen, did a fine but not outstanding job bringing voice to the various characters.
I alternated reading and listening through whispersync and the story line kept me intrigued enough to finish it in a day.

I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.

Comedic science fiction buddy romp
Revisado: 05-13-15
Very entertaining sci-fi comedy as buddies discover Tesla's journel and travel through Interdimensions
The audience for this work would be males in their 20s. While I laughed quite a bit, the lack of distinctive voices for the two main characters sometimes made it hard to follow. There is a lot of profanity in this book's dialogue which some readers may find off putting.
I received this Audible book in consideration of an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Historia
Was he "the greatest human being ever to occupy 10 Downing Street"? Or a man whose "brilliant but unsound judgement resulted in detrimental consequences for Britain and for the world"? Nearly 50 years after his death, debate still rages over Sir Winston Churchill's contribution to history. Indeed, now that wartime nostalgia has mostly washed away, in Britain in particular the views on Churchill are more divergent than ever.

Nice refresher on Churchill
Revisado: 05-11-15
I have enjoyed other Charles River Press titles and found this short biography to be enjoyable and entertaining as well as educational.
My knowledge of Churchill's early years and family life was lacking and this title filled in some gaps for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the timbre and reverb of the upper class London accent of the narrator and felt he was a good match to the work.
Chapter 2 in the Audible book consisted of reading the chapter titles in the book. I found this a bit irritating and not easy to remember or use. If there had been a way to incorporate the written chapter titles into what is shown on the Audible app that would have been valuable especially when revisiting the book to re-listen to specific periods in Churchill's life.
I received this Audible book in consideration for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
