A short journey with the author about his life search for relief from inner turmoil and for deeper meaning in his life. Told in a straightforward manner, and read by the author in his wonderful voice. Compelling and thought provoking.

Never again will I purchase a book, even by a favorite author, before listening to the sample of the narration. In this book I get so disgusted with the narration that I lose the drift of the story and I won't make myself finish listening. I really don't even know if it is a book I would enjoy or recommend or not it just sounds sad, sad, sad. The cracks in the sidewalk are sad, the furnace is sad, the dress is sad...I'm sad just thinking of the purchase price.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I like many of William Faulkner's other books, but this one I didn't finish. Too many characters to keep track of, not a very interesting story to me about a small town, and the reader's voice was not to my liking.

Would you ever listen to anything by William Faulkner again?

I would listen to other Faulkner books that I know, but I would definitely preview a sample of the reader's voice.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Joe Barrett?

If I was able to hire the narrator, I would have hired Richard Poe, narrator of John Steinbeck's

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

This book didn't have any redeeming qualities for me. I listened for two hours and then jumped ahead, searching for something to pique my interest. No such luck. I kept waiting for the story to get better. Very disappointing. Finally just moved on to another book.

Would you listen to American on Purpose again? Why?

Craig Ferguson is funny and fun loving and I love listening to his brogue. His story is quirky and interesting all the way through with never a never a dull moment. His reasonng for becoming an American is inspriational.

What was one of the most memorable moments of American on Purpose?

One of the most memorable moments int he book is his description of and reflection on the event he was asked to MC with the U.S.President in attendance and he is a brand new American.

What about Craig Ferguson’s performance did you like?

The lively, cheery lilt of his voice is mesmerizing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The rough stuff he went through in childhood is particularly moving to me.

Would you consider the audio edition of This Time Together to be better than the print version?

This audio edition was better for me than the printed version as it was read by the author with all the inflections in the right place and the meaning is crystal clear. It's a double whammy, an interesting story and a really good performance. And as always with an audio book, one can listen while completing mundane tasks. My husband is deployed I'm in a foreign country, just me and the dog. Carol Burnett kept me company for two days, and what good company it was. Thank you Ms. Burnett.

What was one of the most memorable moments of This Time Together?

The most interesting parts are tales of Carol Burnett's childhood, being raised by her Grandmother and how she broke into show business. Carol Burnett is a woman of great stamina and perserverance, talent and guts, and her general cheerfulness and willingness to see the best in others is inspirational.

Have you listened to any of Carol Burnett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened nor read any of Carol Burnett's other books, so I am unaware of how this books compares.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this book over the course of two days while doing chores and working on hobbies. I'll save this one and listen to it again.
