Former assassin David Slaton discovers a cryptic message: on a memory stick, a photograph of the man who will soon assume command of DGSI, France's elite counterterrorism force. With that country reeling under a wave of ISIS attacks, Zavier Baland will be trusted to make the Republic safe again. The problem - Slaton has seen Baland's face before. He is Ali Samir, a terrorist Slaton is certain he killed 15 years earlier. Unable to reconcile this frightening disconnect, he attempts to raise the alarm.

Historia
The President of the United States can’t decide how to respond to a classified video showing the Taliban’s brutal treatment of their captive - a female helicopter pilot of the Army’s elite Special Operations Aviation Regiment. Afraid that a botched rescue will further destabilize foreign policy and end his presidency, the Commander-in-Chief falters. But when the Special Ops community learns that one of their own is being tortured and will almost certainly be killed, no executive order will stop them from attempting a rescue mission.

Magnificent!
Revisado: 02-19-14
I haven't written that many reviews. The book has to be extremely bad or very good. I won't waste my time reviewing a mediocre book. This one ranks at the top of the list for me. It's chock full of believable and very well described action. And, it is clear to me that the authors know the subject about which they're writing! I won't bother wasting space to describe the plot; you'll get that from the book description. Suffice it to say that the story, the plot, the narrator - they all mesh together as a well designed and constructed machine, with nary a flaw that I discovered in my listening. I own this one both in Audible and Kindle e-book format, and just like all other books I consider great, I will be saving this one so that I can read it again - and again.
The main character's actions are believable as written, although in retrospect they seem almost impossible. But evaluating just how they are described, the reader gets the feeling that the details might really have happened just as described! From a government and president more interested in an upcoming election, fearful of world opinion, and more concerned about the internal politics of the country of Afghanistan to the actions of a few military individuals who make decisions and take actions based on what they feel is right while ignoring their career, the novel helps the reader to understand that doing the right thing is really the right thing to do. In that regard, the book teaches honor and integrity, something that appears missing in the echelons of our political class these days.
It is not a cheap dime novel. It is well written and thoroughly enthralling!
And it is such a great read that it is impossible to put down!

Historia
It’s not even a clue. It’s a whisper, a trace, a ghost echo, drifting down through the decades via chance connections so fragile that they would disintegrate in the puff of a breath. But it’s enough to get legendary former Marine sniper Bob Lee Swagger interested in the events of November 22, 1963, and the third bullet that so decisively ended the life of John F. Kennedy and set the stage for one of the most enduring controversies of our time. Swagger begins his slow night stalk through a much-traveled landscape. But he’s asking questions that few have asked before....

Stephen Hunter is By No Means Done!
Revisado: 03-14-13
WOW! I've read all of Stephen Hunter's Earl Swagger and Bob Lee Swagger novels, and I thought for awhile there that he was running out of realistic story lines. But with this latest - The Third Bullet - he has come back stronger than ever.
Some will say that this is an alternative history, but it is not that, because the story doesn't change any history at all, or try to modify the current or future events based on an alternate historical outcome. Without causing any spoilers, it provides some realistically plausible explanations to expand on an actual historical event, that are fictional but really makes you think that they might have really happened differently than what we previously understood, but with the same resultant outcome.
Bob Lee Swagger gets into his usual investigative bumblings that keep you in suspense and makes you wonder if he's going to get to the bottom of things and survive at the same time. I can't honestly say at this time that this is the best of Hunter's works, but only because it's been so long since I've read all of the earlier ones, as I read them as they first come out. Having just this hour finished it, I am left with the feeling, however, that it is the best!
I have a few authors whose books I purchase either in Audible or e-book format as soon as they are available, without even reading the first review. And Stephen Hunter is at the top of my list. And I'll say it again for this one. WOW!

The Title Perfectly Fits the Book!
Revisado: 01-11-13
I don't want to give away the story more than the publisher's blurb, and I don't like to repeat the plot, since it's already there.
I usually like longer reads, but I'll tell you, I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed with this book! It's a no-holds-barred "Keystone Kops" kind of a novel, and I couldn't turn it off for wanting to know how it would end up. The back story is balanced quite well by the action and suspense.
I'm so glad the author has written a sequel, and I've pre-ordered it.
I heartily recommend this novel!

Historia
For Gwen Farris, the nightmare commences with the flash of a knife in a darkened parking lot.… That’s where Stephen Tarbell begins to exact his revenge against her for giving him a poor performance evaluation, for getting the promotion he believed was rightly his, and for being the woman who finally drove him over the edge. The threat escalates to an onslaught of physical and psychological intimidation so relentless that it threatens to destroy everything Gwen holds dear. And with the authorities unable - or unwilling - to help, Gwen has to take on Tarbell herself. But how do you stop a madman whose hatred knows no limit?

Entertaining read, ridiculous plot
Revisado: 01-01-13
This was my first Simon Wood read. While the narrative was entertaining, it kept my interest only because of my curiosity. The action scenes were realistically written and got my adrenaline flowing. However, these postives are nowhere near adequate to counter the one very serious shortcoming, that of the basic premise of the plot stretching credulity to the point of complete disbelief: without spoiling the read for others, the number of characters who are too afraid to inform on the villain in the storyline - one of whom is a retired police officer who doesn't even carry a weapon - results in their complicity in the villainous events, merely by keeping quiet. The author would have been well advised to have modified the plot to eliminate this very serious shortcoming. I mostly blame his editor for not advising him to do so. Although not yet published myself, I would have been embarrassed had I written this particular plot, as it defies belief.
While I might read/listen to another Simon Wood tale, it must stand in line behind the 1,500 or so books I have backlogged, and it will be only because it is a 99 cent special or a gift from someone. I certainly will not waste an Audible credit to purchase it.

Historia
The 24-hour news cycle is abuzz when the police arrest homeless Iraq war veteran Mike Stoller for the murder of a young paralegal on her way home from night-school class. Stoller doesn't deny killing the woman, but his post-traumatic stress disorder is so bad that he has no real memory of that night. Jason Kolarich agrees to take the case only weeks before trial, and realizes that, unlikely as it seems, his client is probably innocent. The murdered paralegal had been tracing a money trail leading to terrorists.

A Top-Notch Read!
Revisado: 08-21-12
This is the first of David Ellis' books I have read, and I read it in Audible format. All I can say is that it is a first class thriller!
I almost always have two books in progress: One on my Kindle, the other in Audio format, and I read from 3 to 4 total per week. If a book does not hold my interest, I put it aside, and try it again later - sometimes years later - and then maybe I find it to be interesting enough to finish. I say that merely to lend credence to my evaluation. Many of the best, I will read several times over the years, much like Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series. David Ellis' books will be on that re-read list!
This book, The Wrong Man, is OUTSTANDING! It held my attention from the very first page. I won't repeat the plot descriptions that others have written, as that is unnecessary. My goal is for my reviews to be credible so that people have trust that I will not highly recommend a book that does not keep my interest.
The Wrong Man definitely kept my interest! Ellis has a way of drawing the reader in with a well written narrative, with every word on every page having meaning to the story at hand. He makes you feel as if you, the reader, are actually his protagonist, Jason Kolarich - facing the same forces that he faces in his quest to see justice done. I have since obtained every one of Ellis' novels, and will be putting them at the top of my reading list over the next few weeks and months!
And, I won't wait for his books to hit the discount list. As he writes new novels, I will be among the first to purchase them, as his are on my same priority list as are Lee Child, David Baldacci, Harlan Coben, Michael Connelly, John Sandford's Virgil Flowers series, Nelson DeMille, John Gilstrap's Jonathan Grave series, and a few others. For awhile there, just a few years ago, all my favorite authors had died; but, now I have many more favorites that, as I further age toward my declining years, I'll have these friends to accompany me along that trip, giving me comfort and satisfaction along the way!

New York Times best-selling author Larry Bond’s Dangerous Ground, starring Navy lieutenant commander Jerry Mitchell, was hailed as a “hugely entertaining adventure” by Library Journal. In Exit Plan, Mitchell’s crew is ordered to the Iranian coast for a mission to retrieve intelligence on Iran’s nuclear weapons. But while en route, their mini-sub catches fire, forcing Mitchell and four SEALs to swim to shore - and into enemy territory.

Larry Bond is Back!
Revisado: 06-05-12
This is the first of Larry Bond's novels I have been able to finish since his original First Team. Exit Plan has the power and suspense, without getting bogged down in extraneous and unimportant distractions. Bond should continue to sail it alone, as his solely written works are much more appealing to me than those which he wrote with other partners!

Historia
The thrilling new Virgil Flowers novel from the #1 New York Times best-selling author. The superstore chain PyeMart has its sights set on a Minnesota river town, but two very angry groups want to stop it: local merchants, fearing for their businesses, and environmentalists, predicting ecological disaster. The protests don't seem to be slowing the project, though, until someone decides to take matters into his own hands.

Iron House a great read
Revisado: 10-11-11
Iron House was a really good read; however, the author has a little more research to do about Ford vs Pontiac.Several times, he mentions a "1965 Ford GTO". Pontiac - not Ford - had the GTO. Ford has had a Mustang GT, but I'm unsure whether this was available in '65.
This is a misrepresentation of fact that should have been caught by the editor.

Now, in Buried Secrets, Nick Heller returns, finding himself in the middle of a life-or-death situation that’s both high-profile and intensely personal.
