Historia
As a female Jewish physicist in Berlin during the early 20th century, Lise Meitner had to fight for an education, a job, and equal treatment in her field, like having her name listed on her own research papers. Meitner made groundbreaking strides in the study of radiation, but when Hitler came to power in Germany, she suddenly had to face not only sexism, but also life-threatening anti-Semitism as well. Nevertheless, she persevered and one day made a discovery that rocked the world: the splitting of the atom.

I really liked the format of the book. I also liked that we also got to learn about other scienceists along the way. Super interesting, definitely recommend

Historia
For Bixby Alexander Tam (nicknamed Bat), life tends to be full of surprises - some of them good, some not so good. Today, though, is a good-surprise day. Bat's mom, a veterinarian, has brought home a baby skunk, which she needs to take care of until she can hand him over to a wild-animal shelter. But the minute Bat meets the kit, he knows they belong together. And he's got one month to show his mom that a baby skunk might just make a pretty terrific pet.

Wonderful book
Revisado: 06-03-19
What a great book that helps neurotypical children (and adults) better understand kids who are on the spectrum, without treating them with pity or as "others." The story provided a great jumping off point to discuss how autistic children see the world differently and the challenges this can present for them, as well as how it makes them special. A quick listen that my first grade daughter and I both loved.

Fantastic Story
Revisado: 06-03-19
The title of this book does it no favors. If it hadn't been chosen by our library for the Great Reads Book Club for kids, we never would have picked it up because it looked like another vapid princess story. Inwardly I was groaning that my daughter had picked it up and wanted me to read it to her. I was so pleasantly surprised! It is a lovely, inspiring, nuanced story that reminded me of The Hunger Games but without the violence. We absolutely loved it, so much so that I bought it on audio for her to listen to again. The narrator is a bit dry but she is enjoying listening to it anyway.
