How are people that stupid?
Revisado: 03-29-25
Like Jack Olsen, love Kevin Pierson’s narration.
The deeper I got into this, the more astounded by the absolute stupidity of the people so close to the killers in this story. Thankfully the ending is quick and doesn’t drag us down the legal side.

Historia
On January 9, 2002, twelve-year-old Ashley Pond left her family’s apartment in Oregon City, Oregon, to catch her bus to school. Then, she vanished. Ashley loved her single-parent mother, but she hated her drinking, and the father figures in her life had come and gone. So she had learned to rely on her friends. Recently, however, things in her life had become even more complicated, so when she disappeared, many people believed she’d simply run away. But Janine O’Neill had prosecuted crimes against children in Oregon City for seven years.

Relentless Quest for the Truth
- De Amazon Customer en 09-01-24
Lots of boring narrative.
Revisado: 12-21-24
Didn’t like this book too much. Sometimes I wanted to say “cut to the chase”. The ending was dragging when the subject turned to genetics, chromosomes, and homicidal tendencies. It seemed unnecessary. At that point I just stopped listening.

Historia
Elmer Wayne Henley, Jr. was only fourteen when he first became entangled with serial rapist and murderer Dean Corll in 1971. Fellow Houston, Texas, teenager David Brooks had already been ensnared by the charming older man, bribed with cash to help lure boys to Corll's home. Corll baited Henley with the same deal he'd given Brooks: $200 for each boy they could bring him.

How someone could get away with all those murders and the police just brushed off the disappearances of so many boys.
Revisado: 08-15-24
Great narration but a very hard story to listen to due its subject matter. Left me feeling frustrated for the families that called the police but got zero response.

Great narration
Revisado: 05-19-24
The story moved along quickly without huge back stories that can start to get boring. Of course getting to know the characters is always important but it can also be distracting from the main story.
I liked the twists even if they were somewhat easy to guess.
Good listen at any rate.

Historia
For years, Eddie Lee Sexton ruled his large family like Charles Manson. The depraved patriarch dominated his ragged brood of twelve children mentally, physically, and sexually, and enforced every cruelty imaginable, from vicious beatings to raping his daughters and fathering their children. Finally, in 1992, Sexton's eighteen-year-old daughter Machelle, seeking refuge in a women's shelter, revealed the shocking, sordid details of her father's abuse to authorities. As the law attempted to catch up to Eddie Lee Sexton, he moved his family to a mobile home in western Florida.

Inmates running the asylum
Revisado: 12-12-23
I liked the story as much as I can like a true crime story. I always want to remember that I’m reading about a tragedy out of respect for the victim’s family. I felt like the family of the victim was left out of this story and that made feel sad for them. In contrast, I felt there was more sympathy towards the persons of interest families. Perhaps the parents of the victim just didn’t want to talk about it.
I did like the questions for discussion at the conclusion but who would I talk to about them. 🤔 At any rate, good listen.

Good story but drags in places
Revisado: 10-13-23
I liked this book but sometimes it wandered and I wasn’t sure which perpetrator he was talking about. It does eventually circle back around to the first story about four bodies.
There’s some great advice for true crime detectives should you decide to become involved.

Revisado: 07-16-23
I almost gave up on this because the story was so bleak and there was not one time where I could feel any happiness for these characters. However, I persevered and finished the book. I nearly cried at the end. Here’s the thing…if a book makes you cry, the author has done a great job reaching into your heart and soul. If you’re ok with this, then you should definitely “read” this book.

Historia
Lurking beneath the progressive activism and sex positivity in the 1970 to '80s, a dark undercurrent of violence rippled across the American landscape. With reported cases of sexual assault and homicide on the rise, the FBI created a specialized team - the “Mindhunters”, better known as the Behavioral Science Unit - to track down the country's most dangerous criminals. And yet narrowing down a seemingly infinite list of potential suspects seemed daunting at best and impossible at worst - until Dr. Ann Wolbert Burgess stepped on the scene.
