Historia
Sid Halley’s career as a jockey—and his marriage—were brought to a sudden end by a heartbreaking accident. His glory days are over, but now, as a private investigator, he still finds a certain satisfaction in successfully solving a case. His latest one, though, could prove to be his undoing. Rosemary Casper, wife of an elite racehorse trainer, has begged for his help in figuring out why her husband’s most promising horses have been performing so poorly. Halley thinks she’s overreacting at first. Then hints of deceit and brutal danger make him think twice.

As usual, Dick Francis tells a great story. Simon Preble does a great job of narrating. My only complaint is the pronunciation of Sid's last name. He was not named after the famous object that appears in the sky at rare intervals. His name is pronounced like the fictional Prince Hal's first name followed by the e sound. It has been pronounced this way in all the other books I have listened to that featured Sid and his detecting skills.

Historia
A smartly dressed man has been found unconscious at the local racecourse and is rushed to the hospital, where he subsequently dies. But who is he? Where does he come from? He had no form of identification on him, and no one claims the body. Doctor Chris Rankin, a specialist who treated the deceased—and who struggles with mental health issues—is intrigued by the nameless dead man, obsessed even, and starts asking questions. However, someone doesn’t want the questions answered and will go to any lengths to prevent it, including an attempted murder.

Pulse by Felix Francis
Revisado: 08-07-22
I wasn't sure I could read the entire book at first. I had just been reading another book about someone who lived with depression, and now I was getting depressed. However, I did finish the book and am glad I did.
Felix Frances doesnt just tell a great story, he also educates the reader. I know a lot more about hospital procedures, race track precautions ans depression. Also, the characters were realistic and the story ended well for my favorites.

The Talisman Ring
Revisado: 07-31-21
The Talisman Ring is one of the funniest books I have ever listened to. The narrator was skilled in portraying the volatile nature of the female characters. If you are in the mood for a good laugh, I recommend The Talisman Ring. It had me chuckling throughout.
Georgette Heyer was an author with true genius. She wrote light hearted romance that is shown, not by bedroom scenes, but by the reactions of one character to another. She wrote mysteries with both intelligent and not so smart detectives. She also wrote in detail about the battle of Waterloo in An Infamous Army. Heyer rarely repeated a plot. Each book stood on its owm.

I loved this story. Maeve is the energetic and adventurous girl that I wish I had been. my adventures were all in the books I read. while I enjoy my romances and fantasy stories, I love to mix in well told tales of young people.
the narrator did an exceptional job with Maeve's voice. I could almost see Maeve's fists doubling up and hear the defiance in her words.
