Historia

No te vas arrepentir!

Historia
This riveting sequel to My Bloody Life traces Reymundo Sanchez's struggle to create a "normal" life outside the Latin Kings, one of the nation's most notorious street gangs, and to move beyond his past. Sanchez illustrates how the Latin King motto "once a king, always a king" rings true and details the difficulty and danger of leaving that life behind. Filled with heart-pounding scenes of his backslide into drugs, sex, and violence, Once a King, Always a King recounts how Sanchez wound up in prison and provides an engrossing firsthand account of the Latin Kings.

Captivating and Suspenseful
Revisado: 11-02-24
To really understand this author, you need to read his first book. it puts alot of things into perspective. I have been very moved from the start of Lil Locos life. It really is a good read on understanding our Latino youth and the perils they cross from drugs, abuse, gang life amd homelessness. I recommend this read to anyone that wants change in their life and need insight of how to overcome any tragedies.

In Chingona, Mexican American activist, scholar, and podcast host Alma Zaragoza-Petty helps us claim our inner chingona, a Spanish term for "badass woman." Working for change while preserving her spirit, a chingona repurposes her pain for the good of the world. She may even learn that she belongs to a long line of chingonas who came before her—unruly women who used their persevering energy to survive and thrive.

For our Latinx Queens reviewed by Latinx King
Revisado: 10-29-24
I found this title captivating and mentally freeing. Chingona applied thought processes that I held near. Although this title is focused on our Latinx Queens, I found it to be most empowering and inspiring. The author and narrator speaks with honor and emotional intelligence. She was moving and really brought me back to an orientation that I could relate my life to and painted a vivid picture that ravished my mind. Thank you so much for this read!

Historia
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time. He then investigates the nature of childhood, including why children need play and independent exploration to mature into competent, thriving adults. Haidt shows how the “play-based childhood” began to decline in the 1980s, and how it was finally wiped out by the arrival of the “phone-based childhood” in the early 2010s.

Historia

Captivating and emotional!
Revisado: 05-07-24
This story was soooo good! A dystopian Mexico with a dozen or more plot twists? Absolutely! The narrator was very good! His imagination of retelling the story with several voices and descriptive words, kept me in suspense! This is a must listen for anyone who wants adventure, survival, emotional characterization, honestly, I'm hoping for a video game or a movie deal!

Admirable story
Revisado: 04-26-24
Honestly in the beginning of the few chapters, I was captivated to understand the story and began feeling some inspiration of another good Chicano story. Although, the book reader did a good job of sharing the story with good word usage, different voices and emotional feeling, the story did not feel inspirational. A struggling Latino dealing with mixed emotions and the possibilities to come out as top dog, nope! Instead, Dani gets beaten up several times, emotionally and physically scarred coming from a broken family life. Dani seemed hopeful of a gifted and talented pitcher to reign supreme, but is pushed back and down with empty promises of grandeur. Towards the end of the book, the story ends abruptly without any realistic resolve. Dani, doesnt get the win against hid former tesmmate, Kyle, because he is way to good and it seemed like the author put white boy on a pedestal. Dani ends up winning one with violence, great. His dad is in jail, great. The coach of the elite school makes empty promises, wow. How does this motivate our Latino youth? That Pochos, Mexicanos, Latinos, Chicanos are second fiddle? Give us a win vato! Somos triunfadores tambien!

Topanga Canyon is home to two couples on a collision course. Los Angeles liberals Delaney and Kyra Mossbacker lead an ordered, sushi-and-recycling existence in a newly gated hilltop community: He is a sensitive nature writer, she an obsessive realtor. Mexican illegals Candido and America Rincon desperately cling to their vision of the American Dream as they fight off starvation in a makeshift camp deep in the ravine.

Ending needs revision
Revisado: 10-06-23
The story was good but it was also fueled with alot of hate messages. something I did not like. There was not a good ending either. **Spoiler Alert**The antagonist survived and should have died in the landslide. Then it ended, no aftermath, no moral of the story. Just a snarky sound of music. Even for 1995, there should have been some context at the end. Instead it was severed like a loose end, frayed rope.

Revisado: 09-26-23
Wow, what a great ending! This book had me at the edge of my seat. Made some thoughtful images, inspiring me to head to New Mexico. The characters expressed by the author, really caught my attention. The details of their lives and even Coyote, who in small parts made me chuckle. The narrator was very good, with the use of different voices, really made it well rounded. Thank you for sharing!
