Historia
The Age of Louis XIV is the biography of a period (1648 - 1715) that Spengler considered the apex of modern European civilization. "Some centuries hence," Frederick the Great correctly predicted to Voltaire, "they will translate the good authors of the age of Pericles and Augustus." Those authors are lovingly treated here.

As the Germans say: their highest praise is when they can find nothing to complain about.
beautifully captivating, the flow of the narrator goes perfectly hand in hand with the excellent and gripping style of writing.
If youre a history fanatic, and want a concise (but not too concise, he gives enough info without exhausting you on the subject) summary, but at the same time deep dive into the important people's amd events of the time, this is the book for you!

Historia
This year Christians worldwide will celebrate the 1700th anniversary of Constantine's conversion and victory at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge. No Roman emperor had a greater impact on the modern world than did Constantine. The reason is not simply that he converted to Christianity but that he did so in a way that brought his subjects along after him. Indeed, this major new biography argues that Constantine's conversion is but one feature of a unique administrative style that enabled him to take control of an empire beset by internal rebellions and external threats by Persians and Goths.

subpar
Revisado: 06-21-19
the reading is so robotic, absolutely no attempt at inference or any kind of inflection. The writing is just as robotic, I drive a lot and listen books in the car. I've had to stop this book several time as it will make me nod off in traffic. I would recommend the Constantine book narrated by Charlton Griffin.

Historia
General George S. Patton, Jr., died under mysterious circumstances in the months following the end of World War II. For almost 70 years, there has been suspicion that his death was not an accident - and may very well have been an act of assassination. Killing Patton will take listeners inside the final year of the war and recount the events surrounding Patton's tragic demise, naming names of the many powerful individuals who wanted him silenced.

3 1/2 stars out of 5
Revisado: 06-21-19
Missed a lot of info concerning Patton. Ad libbed a lot of stuff that had no impact on the story whatsoever, like the extremely detailed description of Hitler and Eva's last moments together. Something no one was present to document. Still a well written book, but there is much info missed that should have been added, and much info added that was unnecessary.

Historia
A million-copy seller, Henry Hazlitt’s Economics in One Lesson is a classic economic primer. But it is also much more, having become a fundamental influence on modern “libertarian” economics of the type espoused by Ron Paul and others. Called by H. L. Mencken “one of the few economists in history who could really write,” Henry Hazlitt achieved lasting fame for this brilliant but concise work.

This is the breathtaking adventure of the great Carthaginian general who shook the foundations of Rome. In the world's first "global" conflict, Hannibal Barca marched up and down the Italian peninsula for 18 years, appearing well nigh invincible to a Rome which began to doubt itself for the first time in its history.

great for history buffs, not for casual readers. based off of Suleiman's personal laconic diary, court records and historians notes, Harold lamb weaves a detailed record of events from Suleimans coronation to the domination of the Mediterranean to his turbulent family life. beautiful, I recommend it.

Historia
The first crusade of 1096 unleashed a wave of impassioned, personally felt, deeply pious Christian fury that was expressed in a mass movement centered in France and spreading to other European kingdoms, including Flanders, German speaking principalities, and Italy. Master historian Harold Lamb tells the incredible story of how Pope Urban II fanned the sparks of Christian anger into a mighty conflagration of righteous indignation with his speech of 1095 in Clermont. The resulting armed clashes produced some of the most amazing stories you will ever hear.

The Return of the King is the towering climax to J. R. R. Tolkien’s trilogy that tells the saga of the hobbits of Middle-earth and the great War of the Rings. In this concluding volume, Frodo and Sam make a terrible journey to the heart of the Land of the Shadow in a final reckoning with the power of Sauron. In addition to narrating the prose passages, Rob Inglis sings the trilogy’s songs and poems a capella, using melodies composed by Inglis and Claudia Howard, the Recorded Books studio director.

In yet another superb historical work, Harold Lamb brings the mighty Tatar leader to vivid life and shows how this ruthless commander used his superior intellect and magnetic leadership to overcome one obstacle after another. Tamerlane was truly one of the most remarkable personalities ever to emerge from the steppes of Central Asia.
